Default how do i test my shocks

took front shocks ans springs off today and there motorcaft shocks with gen ford springs.
must be the originals.
how do i know if the shox are any good?
if i push them all the way in by hand, they come all the way up by themselves but takes about 1 min.
no leaks or anything and im unable to push em in and out fast.
i know i can boiunce test em on the car but they off the car.
are they supposed to shoot back out fast when pushed in ?
any advice welcome
thanks
steve

So long as they are stiff when you push them in and out they are probably ok...

they will be slow to extend as they should be as theres more damping on rebound to counteract the spring. so long as they are smooth and not notchy with no leaks thats a good indication they are fine. might not be 100% as new so might have lost some damping efficiency but still in good nick.

To really test them you need to put them on a dyno damper, but would be more expense than its worth, as above if they seem to offer a decent amount of resistance when you try and compress them by hand then they are probably fine.
