How can it be bolt on with no holes for it to bolt to. lol. So yes you will need to drill holes.

Once fitted if you do a nice job with the rear carpet covers you cant notice anything but the bar running across the back of the seat.

Its hard to say without proof and a way of testing the theroy. However from my experiance any mk3 fitted with a front brace stops the flex on the front and causes cracking on the inner wing. For some reason the S1/16i seems to be effected more than the std models. This could be due to the fact they have had more strain from the driver/engine, rollbars and suspension stiffness etc.

However the mk4 doesnt get effected as much as the mk3. Again this could be down to a few things like material the wings are made from, design of shell and structure, build quality/machines a probly a few other things that would effect the stiffness of the shell. Maybe even the fact that the S1 and 16i had a stiffer rollbar setup.

I dont think that fitting a front brace is the best thing to do for a Mk3, for a Mk4 its down to the shell and how good it is?.
