standard have been used up to and over 300bhp so i would go for them, low comp will make it feel gutless off boost and due to modern mapping capabilities low comp isnt really needed anymore anyway

I'd go for Low comp. Less chance of detonation, can run more boost safely..and as for it feeling gutless/less responsive, I couldn't dissagree more and I personally think you'll struggle to tell the difference.

I went from low to high (7.5:1 to 8.5:1) with nothing else changed except for dropping from circa 1700cc to 1600cc (81.5mm to 80mm) and the difference was huge! Much more responsive off boost, and spools at least 500rpm faster

I also agree with Karl.

8.5:1 CR is already low compression.
Unless one want to boost at 2+ bar, super low compression is not required.
And if you are running 2+ bar boost, much better to find a high flow cylinder head and
intake so you don't have to run the boost that high to make decent power.

Cheers
