It is alot of money and Tony knows it, but I know what mine broke for and alot of other big RST's and that can only reflect how much it costs to prepare a car like that.

I've been talking to Tony for months trying to convince him to break it, but he wants to see it stay whole. Can't blame him for that, even though I know it's worth ALOT more in bits.

I'm going to talk to him today about breaking it. I know the main reason he hasn't done it is the fact that he physically can't.

That might change though.

12k WTF!!!

You could easily have a Nova/Corsa doing better times than that thing could ever achieve for 1/3 of that price. And probably still have change left.

You would have to have some serious Ford blinkers to justify buying that car.

Would it break for that much?

What makes that car special is the preperation that has gone into it. That costs time and money, but you loose that when you start pulling it apart.

My car has lots of one off and fancy bits, if i could hey 12k for it breaking i'd do it tomorrow!

It WILL break for more than that. He deserves the dignity of it too, given the amount of work that went into preparing it.

Timrud - It's OK if you want a Vauxhall. Money aside, if you want an RS, you want an RS!!

I'm not bothered what make a car is, as long as it does what I want it to (i.e in this case go fast ).

Hence the Ford blinkers comment from me. I appreciate the shell is in fantastic condition however.

Is it really worth another 8k over the 4k you could do a Vaux for, just to say its an RS. Not for me, but were not all the same!!

Exactly. What do NMS charge for an engine thats capable of beyond 350bhp?

The core engine is identical to mine. I can tell you it'd be more than £4k.

FULL resto, as that car had? I bet there's EASILY another £4k there.

That's before we get talking about all the other bits and pieces.

I think 12k is a gift. Good price.

You would spend double that to build it!

What can you buy new that would compare?

Just needs mapping

That's totally irrelevant. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't pay 12k but...

For 4k you could buy a bigger car than a Nova, a more comfortable car than a Nova, a car cabaple of going off road better than a Nova, and a car faster than a Nova... But the RS isn't claiming any of those things.

Yes it's fast, but it's the overall prep which costs the time and money to acheive, and that's what the asking price is reflecting - NOT because it is fast.

yea i get ya, im not trying to take away the fact its an awsome car!

That is why I said everybody is different. It's be easy to strip a shell down and get it painted. Lob a C20LET in it with an F28. You would have a stronger engine and greabox, and potential for 600+bhp out of that engine if you so wished in the future.

Certainly you could do a whole car for 4k running circa 350bhp. And I bet at 300bhp it would match a 350bhp RST, due to the vauxhalls lightness and its way superior ability to launch. So basically its costing you 8k RS tax. But its ok.. it's "mint"

What I am saying is in general anything RS is over priced, the car is limited in further tuning potential as it seems almost at the ceiling of what is achievable. And it is an inherantly flawed chassis to begin with. I don't recall any barnstorming 60ft times out of any FWD ford ever.

Personally I would choose the Vaux route if I was interested in performance. If I was blinkered towards Fords and wanted a minty mint one, I'd buy a low mile concourse standard-ish one. This car tried to tick too many boxes, and really fails. And costs an arm and a leg

Just break it!!!

Tim - yes it is ok because it's mint! That's the point!

That's why a new car costs much more than a 1 year old one that does the same job. YOU may not agree with spending huge amounts of money on prep and general blingness (neither am I to be honest, as long as it's solid), but that doesn't stop it actually costing money to do, nor does it stop other people wanting to spend money on doing so.

Go and have a look at the price of some classic MGB's etc. They are restored to pristine condition, and sell for big money, but still drive like shit compared to a £2k Mx5 yet people still buy them!

You would choose a Nova becuse you happen to like fwd Nova's. If you wanted something to do the 1/4 mile in cheaply, you would choose a £200 Sierra with a £500 V8 in or something - it would at least be driving the correct wheels!

Rick.

I see your point Rick, and I have stated many times that how I feel may not reflect everybody elses tastes.

My point is this: If you wanted to build a car to go fast you can do it way cheaper (Nova used as an example)

If I wanted a mint RS, you can pick up low miler s2's good enough to eat your dinner off for 5-6k.

A very tiny percentile of the car world want an unber bling car thats modded to mega power so they can hoof it about. The two do not go hand in hand.

So he has a very tiny market to aim at, with an extortionate price.

Break it.

Some people can DREAM!!!

Im not on about the owner either....

Add up those parts on the spec and you have one of the best examples of an Escort at a fraction of the cost to build.

if the cars not going to sell for that price then why not partly strip it then fit standard bits on there, a minty mint shell with standard bits can go for 4k+

what does a shitty nova go for without the £400 engine £100

As I said earlier, Tony doesn't have the resources to do it. Against my idea of breaking it, he decided to have a go at selling it whole first. I think he's wasting time and I'll tell him so. I bet, by the end of April, that car in its current format, will be history.
