HELP!!! fitting s2 final drive to s1 box???
Hi was just wondering what is involved in changing the final drive in an s1 box to that of an s2 box or similar. I have just bought an s1 box and have decided i am not happy with the closness of the ratios and was just wondering if anyone had any idea the best, most reliable and cheapest way to do this.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

Get a box box from a non RS mk3/mk4 escort with a suitable ratio, and take it from there. The S2 crown wheel will have a 8-bolt pattern and will not fit the 6-bolt S1 lsd. The S1 has a final drive of 4.27, S2 is 3.82, and most basic escorts are 3.84. I have the tallest on mine which is a 3.52 (not sure on the last digit) final drive from a mk1 diesel Orion to suit my high compression 2.1 zetec turbo.

i would say 3.8 is good alround ratio av tried them all before goind mtx etc,i would source gear kit from later box and change internals, using later gearkit uses 3 piece molybedlm synchros to,for better precise shift.if in doubt count teeth on mainshaft then teeth on crownwheel then devide the to and= final drive.would advise to have matching mainshaft and crownwheel, otherwise it will be noisy.hope helps.
