Default change ECU or not?

Here is my small problem...
my S2 has hearts and diamond ECU. My loom has the green plug for knock sensor. The problem is that my inlet hasn't knock sensor......
I need toi fit a chipped ecu, so because i want my car run propertly and i can't find a chipped without knock sensing i wondered if i can just fit a chipped ecu from a 90 spec S2, and just plug a knock sensor into the loom and nothing else..

Yes, wrap the knock sensor in some rag and tuck it out the way.
