Default RS Turbo transplants

Does anyone know of any companys who do a drive in drive out service, ideally in the North of England or Scotland, of converting a bogo Escort into RS Turbo or zetec power and any ideas of the rough cost?

I could potentially have a go myself but dont have very good facilities and dont fancy having the car laid up for weeks / months as i gather all the parts plus the costs involved hunting a donor car etc etc.

Would like to know and compare to see if a drive in drive out conversion would be more viable in the long run for my needs.

Thanks

buy a rotten rs turbo, swap everything over rather than buying individual parts

as above, and selling the other bits that you might not want like body kit and interior parts after uve bought the cheap donar car makes it so much cheaper

For the price you would be looking at for somewhere to gather all the parts and do all the work for you it would probably be better getting on ebay or auto trader etc .... getting a cheap rs doing the conversion yourself and then breaking the rest of the car.

I may no a man who would do a drive in drive out service but its a bit of a long shot ....

there are loads of firms who do this sort of thing but seem a bit thin on ground up north, as said before what axactly do you want and in what car ????

general price for labour seems to be around 500 for engine swap if you supply all the stuff

a company in the west midlands called SEVS converted my mates old green escort bonus to efi rst running gear running near standard power, cost him around £1500 if i remember correctly and the conversion was done within 2 days, but i personaly thought the conversion was diabolical after seeing it, admittedly it was reliable and worked, but the engine wasnt the quietest, the turbo had a load of play in it, it smoked, and it just looked like a generally shoddy job to me.

you saw it as well then lol, it was an abortion of a car, i particularly liked the way that the ecu was just left dangling down the inner wing not secured. its had a fair few owners since it was first done and also a few bottom ends since then, it kept popping up on ebay every few weeks, each time with a different owner and a claimed different spec list, yet it always looked exactly the same lol.

ye thats the 1, was like a mint green colour, diamond cut s2 wheels, 90 spec interior, when my mate sold it there had been no wleding done on it and it looked like a bonus on the floor as they all do with a slightly cut out front bumper, he sold it about a month after it was converted, the last i saw of it was on ebay, someone had put a s2 kit, spoiler, and rear bumper painted in the same colour on it and left the bonus bumper and it had a 1.8 zvh bottom end.

Is there not a place in Fife that tunes and carrys out work on Fords? One in the North east too? Cant remember the name but the former dropped a zetec into a grey estate in one of the Ford mags iirc

I'd have a shot at doing this myself but only as a real last resort due to my crappy set up and time the car would be off the road.

Nice one thanks. I emailed Sitech a while back about the st170 zetec option but they use standalone where i was wanting something a bit more cheaper and pikey lol but i think il just give them a call and see what the options are.

Info on the net and places to get a RS turbo conversion done seem to be very thin on the ground. Maybe its because its such a easy conversion?

Yeah i'll give him a shout matey. RS Turbo lump would be a good base starting point i think rather than going the whole bells and whistles zetec turbo conversion etc - would imagine the latter route could get quite expensive

No company is willing to do the conversion as the majority of RST's have had it so looks like the only option is going to be a self build or leave it

id buy an old rusty rs turbo then do it yourself with the cars side by side, maybe it would take a little bit longer but you would have the satisfation of knowing you did it, and youd know how you did it instead of something happening like the story above...

also you could use the gearbox anti roll bars brakes seats etc from the donor and sell all the other bits on

Cheers for the link mate, il give them a buzz.

I'd love a crack at doing it myself but the main problem is my facilities dont really allow for me having cars sitting about the place. I could maybe hire a lock up but then its all extra expense on top plus time, although the satisfaction would out weigh the negatives i suppose.

Iv been having a look at donor cars and the cheapest RST's i can find are a £1000. Wouldnt imagine they'd be the best at this price engine wise tho.

If i cant find anywhere willing to fit a engine and the only option is a DIY i might be better spending a little bit more for a RS with rebuild history and breaking that rather than fitting a shed of a engine and having to take 2 steps back or maybe even forgetting CVH power and opting for a newer N/A Zetec lump
