chris69 - it need'nt be expensive to go down the external wastegate route. i did this with mine as i was fed up with busting rads with my actuator, but the added bonus is i get no peaking it just holds boost all the way through. i did my whole set up for £100 but can be done for even less. oh and the screamer pipe noise is awsome if you wanna run it that way

sounds like a decent route if it can be done reasonably cheaply

wastgate attached to pipe welded into the manifold before the turbo,
screamer pipe ducted to the side of the car to scare the shit out of pedestrians
what else in involved?

cheers mate. its up on axle stands at the moment as ive got a rose jointed rear beam and a few other treats to go on it.
you basicaly explained it right there, its real simple. fix internal wastegate shut, either weld shut or make up a bracket. i didnt weld as i was worried it may crack plus you could never put it back to standard if you wanted to.
weld wastegate inlet pipe at bottom (collector) of manifold. then either run the outlet pipe into the turbo downpipe if the noise ent your thing, or run it to atmosphere.. floor or side exit to scare the shit out of anyone near the car when on boost
if you decide to do it let me know when you are and il run it through in details
