I have idle advance something like 18 now. Get your car someone who can map it.

Just my advice but to be safe take 10 degrees out of the whole table until you can get it setup somewhere, and/or turn the boost right down!

on warm up mine can hit 24-25 degrees, as i have a 6 degree advance when cold, which tapers off pretty quickly as it warms up.

A 16V engine really does not require much advance.
Use the table generator to get in the ball park. 30 degrees is really way too much advance for idle.

ive just ordered a rs232 to usb cable ( i think thats the one lol) to connect ecu to laptop, so im gana try and set it up, the pervoius owner had maped the car to run 9.1 cr which was a standard Zetec with a 1 mm decomp plate, and one mondeo head gasket, and it ran fine till the bottom end went, so i then rebuilt the engine with the spec listed adove and now its pinking under hard acceleration..

does and one know what cr my engine is? head skim 13 thou, block 7 thou skim, focus rs headgasket and xe pistons, any help would be great, would it be more or less compression than pervious, which was 9.1 cr, standard zetec with 1mm decomp plate and mondeo headgasket, cheers...

i can only guess, but xe peistons usually make around 8.4:1 cr, maybe a little more given the block being decked and head skimmed a little.
if anything on the same map as before, you chould be getting less det, but of course the fuelling will be way off now, so running lean probably.
before doing anything else, get a wideband setup and get the mapping sorted.

just worked out the CR 9.44:1 it was mapped to 9.1:1 that is probley the cause. of the pinking.. does anyone know if these head gaskets are any good http://www.pumaspeed.co.uk/showdetails.php?id=470 im thinking of using the thicker head gasket to lower the comperssion...

a thicker head gasket won't drop it much but it's worth a try. Did you use a burrette to measure cylinder and combustion chamber volumes and work the ratio out from that?
