Default Setting bias for rear disc set up

Calling all brake specialists!

Basically I took the car for a good blast last night, setting the boost etc as I've just got it on the road and set up etc. Theres a road up by me, brand new road , 2 mile long straight with a roundabout in the middle, full sight line, noone else on it, 9PM, so got the car upto 125 saw the roundabout coming, so put the brakes on, not too hard but enough to come down from that speed, and although the back end didn't come out, I wasn't fully comfortable with the car. The back end felt very very light and on the edge of breaking away.

Now should I put more bias towards the back to make the backs come on harder, thus, preventing so much weight transfer to the front?

Or, turn the bias down to stop the backs from working so hard?

The rest of the car is set up properly, ie suspention, caster, camber etc.

I must have read that totally wrong, but the way I see it is that you went out to test your brakes to see if they'd lock up - at 125MPH????

No I wasn't doing a break test

I set the bias to half way on the valve then a full turn more off and thought it would be ok. But on using them, they weren't.

the disks wont have to work harder than the drums. they're only for pleasing looks. they dont need to be set on much at all. the fronts need to do most of the work.

How are you setting this "bias" ? Do you have a bias pedal box ?

For now its just set using a Comp-Brake bias valve Tony. However, when the Brembo's go on the back (don't worry I havent forgot about the handbrake calipers I need you to get!) I'll probably need to go for a pedal box.

With my pedal box set fairly centrally and the front-to-rear bias valve fully open, I drove it and stomped on the brakes. Even with my drums on the rear, the back end locked up big-time. So, I simply wound the bias off until I couldn't make the rear end lock-up. Feels fucking fantastic now when you stand on them.

Christian uses a different pedalbox, but the principal is just the same.

Its the only true way to adjust the bias, all you are doing is limiting the pressure with the valve Muz and Ford put those in as standard ! That wont affect bias.

Have you re plumbed the car front/front and rear/rear ?

You do mate, but we couldnt make it work well with the steering column in its original location so didn't bother with it for the low volume sales that would come.

Did those fittings I sent over fit ?

Muz,

Remember when doing balance tests to do them with the pads and everything upto operating temperature. Seen many people try to set them cold, then get a completely different result once the pads or shoes are at working temperature.
