i don't understand what your saying, you say that when you're on boost and let go it rattles? does this stop after a few seconds? check the turbo as if its a heat-sheald rattle then it would be all the time, rather than on over run..

it wont be piston slap as that normaly happens when you put your foot down, but if you have steal rods and foraged pistons then there is a little piston slap

check you have enough pre load on the actuator, mine was doing this, there was no pre load on the wastegate allowing it to rattle/vibrate, drove me mad, thought it was the exhaust at first

get underneath, look up at the turbo, where the rod comes out of the actuator at the other end is a eye hole which slides over a pin on the wastegate arm.

there will be a split pin you will have to remove then the actuator rod will slide off the pin, basically the pin should only half line up with the rod if it doesn't you need to adjust the length of the rod sohalf the rod is visible through the eye hole, then with some pliers pull against the rod and re attach it to the pin on the wastegate arm

do this with the engine cold, and support the vehicle safely on axle stands, in reality it takes about 10 mins to do

hope this makes sense and helps

another possibility yes, but I think it would rattle at all times, easy way to rule tem out is by removing the alternator belt and see if the noise goes away

HAve a quick check of the bolts that mount the alternator, strange I know but mine had this and took ages to track down.

I had a very similar problem, and still do to some degree. In my case it was the bolts which fixed the 90deg elbow to the back of the exhaust housing on the turbo! A few were a little lose which transmitted vibrations down the exhaust which made the rattling noise. Really pissed me off.
I would take a quick look to see that all the bolts on the turbo, and the bolts connecting the start of the exhaust to the end of the 90deg elbow are all done up tight.

Cheers
