Drove my rst cabby home fine, next moring, would fire up then immediately die. Fuel pump was making a funny noise, so replaced it with brand new one. Still the same problem. Fuel pump relay is fine. Any idea's?

What's yours doing nic? Did your fuel pump make a funny hissing noise instead of the usual buzz when priming? When I turn the key the engine starts, but even if I keep my foot on the throttle it just dies instantly. Its really doing my head in, cabby weather and all that! Bet when I get it sorted it starts raining!

thought i would make a new thread....
I have stuck the original tank back on so its back to square one, fuel pump is making an absolute gargling racket like its starving itself of fuel (I have tried 4 different pumps), half way up the road it hesitates and bounces coz its missing and when I go round a roundabout it runs out of fuel and nearly grinds to a halt. I have to keep my foot to the floor to keep it from stalling. I have a series one tank with a swirlpot fitted before anyone asks....
It is also over fuelling and uses about 150miles to a full tank!! Has done that ever since it was set up at vesseys in barnetby....
and....
tried running 12v direct to pump ?
tried it with petrol cap off , to see if its blocked somewhere and not letting air in to replace used petrol?
no change....
and....
1st it fired up and drove down the road before starting to miss-fire, approach the roundabout and she will miss-fire badly halfway round and she will cut out. We had to push her the rest of the way round and ended up pushing her home again because she wouldnt start up again.
I changed coil, leads, plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm, metering head, took fuel tank off and inspected it, checked for air leaks and checked the earths, changed fuel pump, changed ecu.....
and now she struggles to start. She pops and bangs on start up, then just keeps turning over and over.....
had her fired up once on saturday after a long struggle, when she ran she was very lumpy and miss-firing slightly.....
Now she just fires up and dies, fires up and dies then just turns over and over....
Im struggling for more ideas
I have changed: plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, metering head, fuel lines from metering head to injectors, checked tank for leaks, changed four different fuel pumps, checked earths, checked boost pipes and all other pipework, blew down fuel return and fuel lines to check for blockages, changed relay, ecu,s......

am having similar sort of problem, mine seems to do it when i have just filled up, it starts and then dies, and just keeps turning over. if i leave it for a while it will start, but if i try and turn it over with a bit of gas, it just seems to flood itself and takes even longer to start up, i feel embarrassed when theres loads of cars queing up to get to the pump and my car wont start!
i have been told that mine could either be running to lean/rich or the metering head could have a fault.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
have you tried unplugging the cold start valve and tried turning it over then. Also prime the pump wait few seconds then reprime and turn it over, had a few which have been abit of a pain. Also how new are the injectors as i had some which leaked through the night and would be a pain to start in the morning so i used to prime as said above then hold pedal flat to floor while turning over and it went for me.

I had major overfuelling issues with mine at one point. Turned out to be the yellow coolant temp sensor on the back of the inlet manifold. Worth replacing as a matter of course.

just had a quick look at this but thread but short of time so dont know if it has been mentioned already
try the fuel filter as when these are getting bloked they make the pump noisey then after time cause the problems your having also try the fuel pressure actuator on the side of the metering unit does sound like you have fuel pressure problem but may been wrong remove and inspect electrical connection to metering head ect ect look for corrosion and loose pins and give them a spray with electrical contact cleaner or wd40 its also worth tightening the contacts on the connectors
