Default s2 escort rs....many problems!!

hi, iv got a s2 escort rst which iv owned for about a year. for about 10 months it was fine started first time every time and ticked over perfectly. but now its not starting when the engine is hot, it turns over but not fireing....but if i leave it for 20 minutes or so it starts up fine?!?! iv checked and changed all the usual things like leads, plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm etc even the fuel accumulator which a mate told me to do and its still doing it, any ideas?
also it stools all the time!.. everytime i put my foot on the clutch which is very annoying, i hav obviously tried making the tick over faster which helps when it hot but then when its cold it ticks over way too fast!

also recently a bracket holding the radiator up snapped and pushed the fan into the intercooler and the nut on the end of the fan has made a lillte hole in it, do you think that would have anything to do with it?

any advice would be much appricated!
Mark.

Your 1st issue is heat build up affecting your starter motor.
You need a heatsheild.

2nd issue you need to adjust your idle screw to correct rpm, Sounds like you could do with a set up to get it running right.

Yes can pick them up from Ford.
I also had the exact same issues when I first got my S2.

100% not the starter heat shield!
Sounds like it's too rich, could be coolant temp sensor faulty or plug has fallen off, throttle position sensor, fuelling ECU, metering unit drifted out of calibration and gone rich, cold start injector stuck open/leaking, idle mixture too rich, even a blocked air filter! Or a combination of all the above!

Def not starter mototr - if its turning over then thats ok. Id dot he above what karlos said and it may also be worth replacing the pink fuel relay under the drivers side dash. Had 3 rs turbos and all of them had probs starting (and always seemed to be when hot!) and ended up being the pink fuel relay.

Welcome to the world of RS's Mr Parker

Theres never a straightforward answer to any query concerning these cars.... I had the same problem as you and it turned out to be the dumpvale was staying open when the engine was hot, which simply allowed a HUGE airleak! Now I am having issues with it firing up..... some days it does, others it doesnt... I have been pointed in the direction of tyhe fueling meter being shot. Once inspected, turns out its throwing fuel where ever it wants to, inc my boost pipes!

Good luck getting the issue sorted, but yea, as they say, its nothing to do with the starter motor shield.... go get her set up at a reputable RS Specialist.... not ya mates, mates, mate of a mate who owns a screwdriver and a lock up

A split or holed intercooler will cause the car to miss fire and cut out similiar to if you take off a boost pipe. I would get that split sort and it will solve the staling issues I bet!

thanx to everyone for all the advice! i didnt think it was gonna be the starter motor cause that was turning ova fine.
i will try everything thats been sugested and post the results soon...one more quick question, can you fix a hole in an intercooler by welding a small plate over the hole or does it hav to be fixed by specialist? or would it be easier getting a new one all together?!??...and where is the pink fuel relay?
lol as you can prob tell im not very mechanically minded!!
