Exclamation twitchy back end

hi everyone, i have a mk4 3door estate that seems to be getting very loose at the back. its most noticable when driving over sunken manhole covers/potholes etc on one side of the car. as the rear wheel goes over the ditch, the whole back end feels like its kicking out a bit. its definatly not the wheels/wheel bearings or tracking and im pretty sure its not the shocks. could it be a bush on the rear suspension? i had the same problem on an orion once but sold it before sorting it. thanks for reading....

i'd first check the rear tie bars and bushes. they rot easily but are also easy to replace.
