Rocker cover breather on the left hand side

I've removed the whole lot from the left side of the rocker and blocked the meter head pipe. I connected a pipe on the left of the rocker cover and put the other end to a plastic bottle. Problem I have now is it's like having another exhaust pipe! it blows oily smoke out the pipe! is this how everyone's is when doing this mod? does it sound right? should I have some kind of filter inline with the pipe or just run the pipe underneath the car? I don't get any oil running out just oily smelling smoke  Any help would be appreciated ;)

The smell is normal but you shouldnt actually have visable 'smoke' (at least i dont), i ran mine down to the bottom of the engine bay so it vents out behind me as i'm driving rather than being sucked in the heaters! But i do also have a little filter fitted on the end too.
