Default How to up the boost with a bleed valve

I've just fitted a new turbo and new -31 but it only boosts to 12 psi ( old turbo went to 18) I already had the bleed valve fitted and am sure it went back on without being turned and I compared the actuator rod lengths to make sure there the same. Which way should I be turning the bleed valve? open it up fully to bleed off more pressure, or close it off a bit to restrict the flow?

yes the more you open the more boost you will run !but i wouldnt if it was mine, take it to a tuner and get them to set the car up.

It was setup on the rollers to run 18psi, but after fitting the new turbo it only runs 12 so just wanted to get it back up to 18

well if its the same turbo then it should be fine to turn it back up.
ps it sounds like it hasnt got as much pre load on the actuator

Hi Adam, it's because your old turbo was a stage 2 IIRC and you've fitted a stock T3 which flows considerabley less so you will need to open the bleed valve (as you have done) or adjust the actuator and make it work harder to get the same boost you had before.

My only concern is that this turbo will produce loads more heat (high ACT's) at that boost compared to your old Stage 2 and so this increases your chances of detonation, i would at least just do a power run to make sure it's ok, the last thing you want is at best a blown head gasket or at worst a holed piston!

well this changes things if he was running a stg2 @ 18psi and now its only a standard t3 then the fueling will defo be wrong even if its running the same boost .
