changing to stud and nuts
i want to change the car to run stud and nuts rather than the wheel bolts. What's the best way to do this? Do i need to buy a conversion kit or can i swap the set-up from a mk5/a/6 Escort onto the S2. Also if i can just batter the set-up on do i need to take the whole hub from the donor car or can i just take the studs?
hope that makes sense! |
i went to fords a got the studs from a escort cossie, as the guy gave me all the nuts when i bought my cossie wheels. bash old ones out, smack new in.. fronts more difficult as hub is in the way.
and after swap is done check nuts for tightness after a few miles. |
Hi
Talk to Steve Law at Speedshack. He has got the wheelsstuds that fits the S2 !! Bought mine from Steve and they are easy to fit, god service aswell :-) Henrik |
easier with the hubs stripped down also
and make sure the threads are drilled out to a sufficient size, as i sent my rears to work with a mate of my dads to have them drilled/pressed in to save time, and clearly somebody got lazy and didnt drill, and it cracked the hub |
One of the best things I ever done. No fighting the wheel to keep it in place when trying to bolt it up any more!
Buy a set of studs from Burtons, Ebay, ford (Sierra wheel studs or Mk5 Escort studs). The holes may need drilling out a little if I recall correctly. Then they can be drawn into the hub by using some oversize nuts (to act as a spacer) slotted over, a big washer and a spare wheel nut. |
whats the benefit of doing this apart from easier to get a wheel on?

stud and nut set up is stronger. not that i can explaine it

One thing i've got on the 'to do' list on mine, so much easier to fit wheels!
