Default air temp

hi all and a merry christmas
right i have fitted an act guage on my series 2 mfi lump standard valves and a piper t2 with a airtec front mount i/c twin fans standard thermostat 83/85 c fan switch boost 12 psi and was wondering if any one else uses one on there car as i wish to know what your temps are
i know the weather is cold at the moment
my car runs temps like this
around east london moderate to mid range revs with alot of stop starts and stays around 17 to 22 degrees c ( thats london)
constant 70 mph 8 to 11 degree c outside temp 13 degree
constant 80 mph as above
constant 100 mph 10 to 12 degree c ( constant speeds obtained over a 2 mile distance from a constant 70 then up to 100, all readings where carried out over a 200 mile round trip and on the same day
temp probe is fitted between throttle body hose and charge pipe
after normal driving and the car left for half an hour temps are around 55 to 62 degree c and when driven again drop back well fast
i would like to point out alot of people want to know how the airtec performs to the trusted i/c used by most( pace , grs ect ect) also the airtec is not my first choice but it was on the car when i bought it and never gave me any trouble but looking at getting a grs soonish but may not if the airtec does the job but will see how it performs in the summer months
so if anyone has done a bit of testing on air charge temps i would love to know them with which i/c even if it is standard one
also is the any post on here which may help me to compare readings with different i/c setups
many thanks
mark

i agree that would be a test for the old airtec then we all would see if there company testing was anygood or just hype
as mentioned its not my choice of i/c but game to give it ago on the track.
i value my licence and respect all roads users but my passengers leave brown staines lol

are you using an airtec for the mk 5 with a rst conversion or a modded mk4 one
i got to say though the last week when i get in the car it reads -1 to -4 and has been below 10 degrees all day long

I fitted the Airtec front mount cooler on my mk2 Orion (mk4 Escort shape). That was running a 1.6 cvh rst lump on the MFi system. It had a Piper 285 T2 cam with standard valves low comp and a hybrid T3 running 20 p.s.i. In the summer heat (25ish degrees) after a few blasts up various bypasses I used to see temperatures of around 27-29 degrees when accelerating. It is also worth noting that the car ran a standard re-cored rad, standard thermostat and rad fan switch. One of my concerns about fitting the cooler over the charge cooler I already had fitted was the lack of air to the radiator which I felt potentially could cause the engine to overheat in show ques in the hot but rare summer weather. Using the Airtec twin fan arrangement the car never once overheated. The water temperature gauge used to go as high as about 2/3 of the gauge and the fans would cut in and within a few seconds you could see the temperature gauge coming back down again the fans were never on for more than about 2 mins at a time when stationary. Under the same conditions the standard rad fan only seemed to control the temperature rather than decrease it after cutting in. When I had standard rad fan and Pace Chargecooler fitted the charge temperatures were about the same, however it was the recovery of the charge air temperatures which seperated the two systems. With the charge cooler fitted it took alot longer for the temperatures to cool back down again after either sitting in stationary traffic or after accelerating under boost conditions were as the Airtec started to recover moments after the same cirumstances. I never used the Orion in winter conditions but I suspect the temperature readings to be similar to that which you mention. I know on cooler summer evenings the charge air temps only ever peaked around the 18-20 degree mark which I was more than happy with. Chances are the more expensive coolers will help control the temperatures better over longer periods of driving but for the driving I did which wasn't what I would describe as labourious I was more than happy with the fit, finish and performance of the Airtec and you certainly can't argue with the cost of it
Hope that helps
