Where is the sender located?
Should it be purple to the rst?

My gauge almost never moves more than a few millimeters. Maybe I got the wrong sender?

The temp gauge sender is located in the front of the head (exhaust side) next to the thermostat housing and has a single wire going to it.

The ECU temp senders are located at the back of the engine under the inlet manifold.

The radiator fan switch is located in the thermostat housing

Thanks for the answer.

Is the hole sender purple?

Is the fan only connected to the thermostat housing and get the signal to run from here? No impulse from the ECU?

The sender for the gauge should look like this.....

The fan switch in the thermostat housing is just a "switch" which turns the fan on and off. The ECUs have nothing to do with coolant fan operation.

Now I know where the sender is located and the picture you showed us over a brand new sensor looks like its white in the top end.

I think there are only one sender thats fits here. How said anything about purple?

Yes, its a different connector/shape to the others on the back of the engine so you cant get that one mixed up.

Turbocat - according to the information on here...

https://www.burtonpower.com/product_...=temp%20sensor

Part No: XTT8 - Replaces Mauve sensor on the CVH.

I got a new temp gauge sensor for my Escort from my local motor store.

it was always pink, they may have changed it. It really doesn't matter as the gauge isn't calibrated. If it runs 1/4 way normally, and it shoots up to 3/4 - you know u have an issue.

Default Correct sender.

The temperature gauge sender on mine is original. It has a spade terminal, although some cars may have the round pin. The 'blade' sender should have a mauve insulator. Half way between pink and pale blue. Mine runs about 40% range normally, with the fan coming on at about 75% range. It was nearer the top but I put a lower temperature fan switch in to deal with more queues nowadays.

Red and white. To be more exact, on mine the original has 4 equal width bands around the circumference, alternate red and white.

Mine is Black!
The first one I bought as a replacement last year had the gauge reading high and swapped it out for the current one which is black.
I think the colours are irrelevant unless they are all from the same manufacturer.

I matched the cold resistance of the current one with the original but can’t remember what I was. I will measure it tomorrow and reply.

Done some testing this morning.
you need this resistance at ambient (currently around 8c in my garage.

This will make the gauge read normal. Unfortunately I can’t remember where I got it from but they stated the resistance in the specification so I knew it was correct compared to my original.

My previous sensor.
This will make the gauge read hot.
