i have a escort 1.6 ghia 1983 y reg what would it take to put a turbo engine in,would i have to change the fuel tank,would the gear box fit and the wiring loom

what turbo engine efi or mfi ? as far as i know

anncileries
exhaust
decent clutch!

carnt think of anything else of the top off my head

i wouldnt recommend using the standard box but that all depends on how much power ur going for although a mate of mine has put 261bhp through a standard box with no lsd and it not broke yet after 9 months

If your car came from the factory as injection then you don't need to change the tank if it's on carb then you will need to put a xr3i or rst tank on it. it should bolt up with out any mods but you will need to wire in the fuel pump and poss the fuel gauge sender you will also need the fuel pump bracket that hold the pump. alternator starter will be the same(i'm guessing you engine is a cvh) gear box will be fine a slipper makes the box no stronger just helps with torque steer. the wiring for the car will be fine you can patch a erst engine loom on.(i'll have one for sale soon once my zetec turbo is finished) if you run a s2 engine you will need a s2 rad as the turbo is water cooled. you'll have to cut front panel about a bit in order for the fan to sit in front of your rad. i done this conversion about 6 years ago on a mk3 xr3i just trying to remember what i had to do if you have any questions pm me.
Do it you'll have a blast you cant beat an Escort RS Turbo.
all the bits you need you'll be able to find on e bay or in the for sale part of this forum.

i said change the tank coz they didnt actually do a mk3 1600 ghia with injection only xr3i and series1 had injection in the mk3 range

If you can get hold of an rs turbo engine and box. That will drop straight in.

Then you need to sort the little jobs like, fuel pump, ecu's, loom, cooler, rad brakes and odds and sods.

Pretty easy job, personally id look for a Fiesta RS Turbo engine and loom as you dont have the shitty metering unit to deal with
