More help needed with RShitty Turbo
Ok i put new bushes in the steering rack but the steering still had some play in it so i thought i'd check the wheels bearings etc so i jacked the car up & there was alot of play in the wheel
It was top to bottom play so i checked the centre hub nut & it was finger tight
I've tightened that up so now theres hardly any play in the steering wheel but now when i brake theres a loud noise like a knocking clicking noise
Could it be the driveshaft? (is that why they left the hub nut loose)?
Help

There are fookin loads of different driveshafts mate!
I dont know what the differences are apart from there are ABS ones, non ABS ones, and then the early ones with the "Tripod" type CV joint.
Could be the wheel bearing? Why not change the whole shaft and wheel bearing too, and while youre on, do the other side as well

The wheel hasnt got any play in it anymore & it's not making a whining noise when im driving so i presume the bearings ok, the car's an S1 so it hasnt got ABS.

Another guess, check the CV joints "protector" pressed into the driveshafts side of your hub. If the centre bolt was loose the driveshaft may have cut this thing in two pieces and then it will spin along with the shaft now and then making some strange noises......
Cheers.....

Sounds like the bearings on the verge of collapsing.unlikely to be driveshaft/cv if the noise is whilst in a straight line.
Also, hubnuts when staked don't loosen the only the only potential for play is the bearing.

After driving the car for abit the noise has stopped - i cant figure it out
So now theres no noise (even when on full lock driving in circles) & the wheels isnt loose
Strange

At least it's quiet now. Next time just have the stereo a little louder then you won't hear any noises: they all creak and bump and bang
