Can anyone shed some light on the make of these pistons. I pulled these out of my S2, the block is meant to be a 1900cc, verniered the bores and they are 83.2mm. Pistons are meant to be forged but i wouldnt know the difference!! It has A.P.L 1001 stamped underneath the piston.

They look like the original pistons out of an early (85/86 carb) American
1.9 cvh.
If (Big If) they are forged someone has paid a lot for them to be specially made.
It's a long time since I looked at any standard ones so I can't remember
what markings they had on them, sorry.

What casting marks have you got on your block?

thanks for your input there, you may be right as the block was meant to be a 1900cc!! I will check the block for numbers in the morning and get them posted up. This is more out of interest than anything else. They look fairly new (pistons) but that could mean anything.

If it's the block that corresponds to the pistons I think they are, it should
have a '27' cast both sides of block.

Okay here's the pics. But as its got 16 on the block either side im guessing its a 1600cc block bored out to 1900cc.

Looks like one o them thar overbored 1.6's, there doesn't seem to be
much liner left around those pistons does there?

i think the 1900 blocks have cvh stamped on the back of the block ,i would say yours is a 1600 as it has 16 on the back of it

If you've got the crank still in there, measure the stoke.
If its 88mm its a (according to some) 'proper' conversion
if it's still 80mm then oh oh it's a 1740..
Don't worry too much though the 1.9 from the factory was only
in reality 1860cc.

Yes they do but just to confuse things a little more so does the 2 litre.
Which is in fact more like what we know as a zetec.

My guess is that its a bored out jobby, considering the 16 on the block. To be fair though, it was more out of interests sake thatn anything else. Just wanted to get some info on her!!

Another pic from above to show the liner. I have done a dye penetration test for cracks of the bores, the block face and where the crank connects for the oil ways. All came out fine.......... Thankfully!!!

I dont have the crank as its away being reground and balanced at the moment, ill try when i get it back. I would think that with the fact the bores are a couple of mm larger, it must be bigger than 1600cc.

Definately a 1.6 block, no doubt about that.

Obviously as you say though its bored out so its going to have more capacity.

The finish on the pistons look forge, or machined cast(which i have never seeb before)
