Imo your in danger of puting the cart before the horse

Your turbo should be matched to the spec of your (new)engine.

My advice would be to sit down either with your selected tuner/engine builder and work out what your spec is ultimatly going to be and take things from there. No point in spending a lot of money now to find out that the turbo unit you have invested in is not best suited to your car after engine work.

yup,..agreed...

dont even think about buying a turbo before speaking to tuner/turbo builder to finalise wether a certain turbo would be suited.

also, a statement like "turbo for under a grand".....do not say that to any turbobuilder...

you will get a turbo wether you need it or not from a lot of companies for £995....under a grand


besides..
i can do brand new garret big spec bad boys for much cheapness

yes and good for upto 300 bhp with very little lag

spec- 1600cc - forged pistons, steel rods, stage 3 head, newman cam, electronic boost controller with -31 actuator, rad tech front mount intercooler and most importantly gotech engine management. Maybe look into getting knife edge crank in future.

want as much power as i can get without blowing anything up in a year lol

i think it was about £1000, ring them up.as for gt30 it all depends what you want from the car ,they are awesome turbos but can be lagy on a 1.6

i assume you have been told otherwise, and then forked out close to £1000 for turbo...

theres no need...
if you want 300hp out of a 1.6 then fair enough..
also, i did quote in my last reply....."without blowing anything up in a year"

if you want reliablility, and good hp without being excessive...stage 3 would be ample

i think the spec you have and the spec the topic poster will greatly differ....

as said, speak to tuner first to discuss what the engine will need...




there are 2 factors here...

what he wants...
and what you have...

just because ts right for you, it may not suit his spec at all...

the car was mapped at jamsport and these are the turbos that they will recomend for his spec

but it may not be right for HIS spec...

every single engine is different....
there is not one the exact same....

the turbo would need to be an exact match for the engine to get the most out of it when considering...

budget..
current spec
future spec
reliablitiy...
even down to the tuners preference for the turbo,....


theres soooo much to consider, and just assuming a turbo is right for the job is mental...offering advice on which is the usual route is fair enough..

hrsturbo do not just buy a turbo on the say so of someone on here,..myself included...speak to the tuner... end of

I'm impartial, but I'm with Stuart on this one. At best a maxxed out Stg 3 T3 with a .48 exh housing will give, what... 260 - 270bhp??? How ever far you push it it will be working very hard. Everything else in your spec seems right (apart from maybe the head) so why skimp on the bit that will give you the power.

I would suggest a GT28. A basic GARRETT GT28 can be bought from the UK for under £1000, after that you'll be paying for extras like ported shrouds etc. I don't care what anybody says, these turbos are 20+ years old now and there is far better stuff out there, you just have to pay for it.

Oh, and nothing should "blow up within a year" if all the parts are right and the car is mapped correctly. Unless you are just unlucky and you have a major part failure as I did.


All in my opinion of course.

I was just adding my 2 pence worth. He has to decide what he wants from the car. Raw power or minimal lag and driveability.
