S1 running bout 180 bhp at 14 psi. What plugs would be the best for this ? Bought some from Partco that they recommended and only lasted about 500 miles
I want a decent set that is gonna last, what would you guys use ? cheeRS

At a very wild but inteligent guess i'd say Motorcraft or NGK ones Not exactly massive power is it

NGK were the ones that did'nt last very long

Motorcraft 071's are the best compared to any plug under Ł60 pound.

Good enough for 600+ bhp cossie's, and last over 12k miles. and good idle.

I believe they are std fiesta turbo plug's, or something along those lines.

Ive got motorcraft AGPR901C in mine but i got mine off ebay dont think you can get them from ford anymore. But as above 071's will be fine for yours.

AGPR901C are not avalible, now it is called AGPS901C and it is the same thing. I have it and it is good.

*Motorcraft AGPS901C or
*NGK RST plugs

For the under Ł15 group.
Is it worth going for more expensive Champion plugs?

Mine's getting serviced this Friday and looking to change my plugs, so watching this on people's thoughts. Can't remember off the top of my head what's fitted at the moment tho.
Garage have the NGK plugs in stock for around a tenner.

*Edited to add: also using standard oil filter and black RST Ford plug leads

No imo the Motorcraft 071 Motorcraft 901C's are just as good

Just checked through my paperwork: currently using Champion QC59C plugs with Valvoline 20W 50 oil done by previous owner.

It's worth getting a group a coil as well mate i put off getting one because i didn't think it would make much difference but ive just bought one and it's made ALOT of difference to the drive and idel of the car I also invested in some magnecor leads and managed to get some AGPR901C plugs and the car drives completly different now

Need to fit different leads then as this has spade connectors instead of the round style?

Yeah thats the only downfall you have to cut the original plugs off but if you ever want to put them back on you can always solder them back on on thats what i shall do

Well i dont know about anyone else but mine pulls ALOT harder/better since i fitted the coil

They were originally lancia parts according to Rick and tabetha

I thought that..but that was what the previous owner was recommended to use by someone.
Personally, I'll be using Performance Vauxhall semi-synth 10W 40.
Used this for a few years now in various cars. Both garages my cars go to use this oil: one vaux orientated, one ford orientated. They've looked through the properties of the oil and is similar spec to more expensive oils but at a cheaper price.

it is to thick gives to much drag and bad for the oil seals about 5bhp power loss aswell

As earlier Lee: previous owner used this after being advised by someone (not sure who). I agree it is a bit thick, and will be getting 10W 40 semi-synth.

What are 901 plug's?
Never heard them be rated for big power like 071's.

i've used ngk 9's, champion 57's and 071's, in both my cars,

and the 071's and champions are the better for blow out on high boost,
and the 071's are best for idle, and the 071's are alot cheaper than Champions,

also peep's say alot of issue's have been seen on champions due to the quaility controll on some batch's.

Ford told me that they are not motorcraft 071 anymore but AGPS701C.My mate has a heavily modded S2 and he has these in his and he says they are bob on

Try NGK BCR8ES plugs, used and recommended by jamsport on most mildly uprated RST, most motor factors stock em for a couple of quid each. Used them on my last s2, 1.9cvh 15psi, 240 bhp and changed em every 6 months, or after about 10 trackdays, and never had any probs.

i had a couple of std ngk's start to melt before,
with no det, but i had set the fueling slightly leaner than most would, but far from running lean.
Lucky i noticed them before the tip fell off.

that was about 190 bhp.

701s were very early s1 plugs and are the best to get.but are now 071s, 901s are the late plugs for the s2 and are just as good
