Default rolling road figures

following my last post on performance, who out there has had dramatically different rolling road figures without any spec changing on the car but just by taking it to a different garage??

lets hear the stories!

Not so much variations like that, but my mate had his Jap Silvia rolling roaded at powerstation, was 277bhp, hes now done mods to it, and taken it back, and this is the graph:

He wasn't overly pleased with the new power figure, but the losses seem extremely high

Ummmmmmmmm, well nothing that advanced i thought it was ok personally.

When he made 277 i think he just had the filter and exhaust, and possibly the front mount fitted but dont quote me!

But now hes got an Apexi ECU with Commander, 350Z air flow meter, bigger injectors, and think thats it thinking about it!

He had it mapped in the morning then we took it over to powerstation to see the results. 395Nm of torque though, pulls like a slag

This is the graph that my car produced at SCA in Norwich in early 2006......

This is the graph that my car produced at Power Engineering also in early 2006. There wasn't really any difference in spec between these 2 and it was the spec that I did last years Daddy Thrash on a months or so earlier (168.8mph).

Then, when we got our Dyno Dynamics Dyno, the most we could get out of it was 280bhp. Despite running many car's that made what power they should, so, I hit the ground with a bump. 40bhp less than I thought I had.

However, we then re-spec'd and made 351bhp on our Dyno, 60-70bhp gain on previous runs! Imagine what it would make at Powers/SCA, if you take into account the above!!

There are so many variables with Rolling Road's and it is important to note that you cannot compare 2 different runs very easily. For example, some RR operators measure RPM from the car's tacho. RST tacho's are usually around 500rpm out in my experience. That will discredit a run for starters. Then there's wheelspin. As soon as a car breaks traction on the dyno, the results might aswell be flushed down the toilet.

Dyno Dynamics have a set of standard criteria, which if followed, should reproduce runs with some degree of accuracy whatever DD Dyno you visit. They aim for world-wide standardisation and once you see how it works, you can see how that is possible. We also have ways of checking with absolute certainty whether or not a car had wheelspin on the rollers.

I'm looking forward to having an RR day, I really think it will give a few people a wake-up call and sort out those that really do have the power.

I still maintain that a standard turbo CANNOT produce over 220bhp (not even that high IMO). I know that some will have something to say about this, but that's my opinion.

My FRST made 207bhp at Engine Advantages and then with no change to the spec made just 167bhp at SCC on a set of DynoDynamics rollers.

Was pleased that my S2 made it's 256bhp on the DD rollers can't help wondering what it might make on other sets of rollers.
