Once you have done it, you will realise. TOTB 1 was a great event and it went downhill from there IMO. Last time I went, regardless of what results you had, if you didn't have a Skyline badge or an Evo badge, you were in the way.
Also, having to pay close to Ł80-100 for the privaledge of displaying your car for someone else to make money out of doesn't appeal. I would rather do a trackday.

totb has Defiantly lost its appeal totb 1 was quality run as the event should be run, but the last two have well people where more interested in the jap side of things, we just make up the numbers and to be Competitive especially with the times fwd have been setting if your car cant do at lease low 12s 1/4 and 160 tops then dont even bother turning up.

And I was thinking the same. Score well in all three catagorys, it is achievable.
My rebuild which is currently underway will see more power and I am yet to use the 100 bhp Nos.

for me to meet the totb Criteria ie low 12s or 11 and 160+ also to be Competitive in the Handling i would have to spend quite alot of money the car got the power but there are bits holding me back which i would have to do i need a boost controller where the boost comes in more Progressively which my current turbosmart boost controller is not capable of doing, a pair of modified driveshafts, a lower final drive and a wrc spec zoo motorsport built fully Independent and adjustable rear beam but i wont get much change out of Ł2300

As you know at the daddy thrash my car was a bit smokey!
The reason for that was a chunk removed from No3 bore allowing oil to bypass the rings, also the head is cracked throught to the water jacket in 2 and 3.
That means I have to rebore to 86mm and get some new pistons made by Omega as I have skimmed the head by 3.6mm in total, no piston available to give the correct CR.
I think I will get some fancy skirtless pistons to reduce friction (wont last 20000 miles though).
With also modding the rocker posts to prevent them been ripped out I will seek a new cam profile to move the powerband even higher.
Nos 100bhp direct port
I believe the crankshaft should be good for 475BHP and 500lbs of torque, I will TRY to get the hole package as close to this figure as poss!
Simon.

sounds promising Simon!!! so many people seem to have problems with the rocker arms is there a way to stop this from happening?
Is there any chance of you being able to send me some more info regarding the droop eliminators? like where they attatch at the bottom of the strut?
cheers

Yes it is getting on a bit!
There are 10 visable crack in the combustion chambers. 3 of them are LARGE!
I will try and weld them up, but it may be new head? The pain is my head is very modded, so if I had to replace it would take days to get it up to spec!
Big inlet and exhaust valves
Big ports with turbulaters
Skimed 3.6mm
Alternative M14 rocker posts
Modded lubrication supply

simon when you plan to use your nitrous how much boost are you going to run? with 100shot your engine will probably make 140bhp at the crank and your boost will go up by at lease 3psi but.
i'm sure you are aware of this, you are asking alot of the block if you want to run full boost.
#22
Turboboss,
The block is only 3000 miles old and I have had it from new. The crank I will get lightened and balanced, we are runnin the same rods and I am putting new pistons in.
At the thrash I was only running 25psi (because of the Felpro) which gave a ??? top speed result. So based on the info gained I feel 28psi inc N2O will proberly be approching the limit of engine explosion!
I reserve the right to change my mind!

Car could be finished within the next 2 weeks if I get organised.
What expenses are incurred when doing TOTB then? Intrigued.
Mind you I'd have to be in the country to compete

Defo gotta be runnin low 12's for TOTB to stand a chance.
Even when i did it for TOTB4 high 12's were needed really
Anyway, hope the weather held out for everyone at the Daddy Thrash this year.
Cant wait to see what times were done. This year seems to have produced some really huge horsepower cars.
Cant wait to get back out there myself.

From an organisers point of view its easy enough(with mag co-operation) to get cars together for qualifying.
What you then have are cars that have HUGE potential that couldnt make qualifying.
Cars that are proven but were'nt at qualifying & the results from the qualifying day its self.
Gathering the info together and selecting a team that's "the best" bearing in mind the three disiplines is where the problems start.
Everyone will be up for the qualifying day, but when it come's down to getting the cash out for entrance fee's, interested parties start to slowly drop off.
When owners sit and think about the real cost, of what is essentialy a day for the 10second and 200mph cars(Skyline & Evo boys as Christian puts it) its not such an interesting yet a pretty expensive day.

I'm still entertained by this and will revisit the TOTB thing later in the year to see you all post about how shite it was and how you wish you hadn't wasted your time!! LOL.
When you line up for a run at TOTB and behind, infront and beside you are Skylines and Evo's that will be putting in 9's and 10's and 200mph top speed's and as soon as you reach the line everyone sigh's and moan's "Yawn, not another FWD piece of shit, get it out of the way and let that Skyline through", then you will realise how pointless it is. Even the commentators find it hard to muster the enthusiasm. "....and here we have another RS Turbo, he should manage a truly astounding 13 second pass......" You can imagine just how captivated the crowd will be at that prospect!!
Sorry to be a stick-in-the-mud.

351BHP and 310LB/FT!
Thats enough to do the rs crew proud in the fwd class!
But why are you concerned about other people in skylines and evos?
OK they are running silly times... but a next level of performance.
All im saying is if get a few of the fastest rs turbo's up there, we can push these civics and fto crap out the way, and stamp some mother fu**ing authority!

Billy, that's exactly what I thought the first 2 years I did TOTB. Me, Keith and Dave Edwards were among the first people in the country to crack 150mph in an RST and we all did it at TOTB. We still all felt like we were in the way. Seriously, it's full of tuner-sponsored mega high budget cars and people who are only interested in looking at the cars they see in Banzai etc. I love every event I do, but this is not one for me.
Even the Cossie boys aren't really with the pace I'm afraid to say.

I wouldn't worry about what Joe public thinks either. Surely the point of ANY event is competing and you're not competing against the cars running 9 / 10s 1/4's. Be good to see some RST's next year and there are certainally some very potent cars that seem to have turned up, its just not the same without you guys!
