hi chaps

was fitting my act meter yesterday and noticed oil in the crossover pipe etc. so checked the turbo for play. the shaft moves but only approx 2mm. does this mean the turbo is on its way out!!!

theres a certain amount of oil residue that builds up in the turbo pipes
i dont think its much to worrie about, does the car smoke or hold back??
if theres oil gettin past the seals it will smoke like a gooden!
sounds like theres abit of play there but some of it will be taken up once theres
oil pressure there.
if im wrong feel free 2 give me a kick in the arse

Sounds normal IMO, as above is the car running ok? IS it side to side play? this should be minimal but a tiny bit is normal, is there any in / out play? that is not supposed to be good! And as Dickie say's there will be minimal oil in the pipes, but if it is slicked, that is not a good sign!

it doesn,t smoke or hold back (at when its going anyway ) and their isnt that a huge amount of oil

so hopefully one less thing to buy/sort/bodge/batter/break.

now where that 6kg persuader

Thats the reason why im swapping my turbo round. Play in the shaft & oil in the hoses, plus its smokes like mad on cold. Smokes the whole road out. Well i hope its the turbo, as ive got one on its way.

in/out play isnt good but side to side is okay as like dickie said the bearing will take that out when up to temp.

a little oil in the hoses is okay but that doesnt necessarily mean turbo.

if it drives and boosts normally dont worry for a while

Ive got enough slicky oil in my hoses. Took one of them off & it was dripping out.
