swapping cone filter for airbox ??

Hi,

tommorow I'm swapping my K&N cone filter for a standard airbox & K&N element but want to know the best way to do it.

I will route a cold air feed into the box from the front of the car but is it wise to drill holes in the 'cold side' of the airbox, I've seen pitures of people that have done it but I'm a bit sceptical, surely this will just take in hot air like the cone filter :?

what do people reccomend and more importantly what have people done to there's ??

cheers, Duncan

i got a standard air box on my s1 i've drilled 4 holes about 1 1/2inces big in the side nearished the inner ring as i have got my bonnet raisted up it drawers in cold air but could do with more cold air coming in from the front but there but a lot of room :?

I have a couple of XR3i ones, will they fit? dunno if they are the same as the S1 Turbos. :?

vroooom ptssssh 23-08-2004 01:43 AM

no mac they wont, as the Xr one comes off the airflow direct to plenum, like so:

Ive got pipercross foam cone. Seems to work well, until it rains & gets a bit wet where it runs from one of the vents. :?

Each to their own! :blabla:

I need to get hold of a couple of std air boxes really..... 1 so I can jsut bung it on and get rid of this pipercross filter  and the other is for development ;)

Gonna do some testing and developing with it see if I can better the intake air by ammount and temp, then once finished gonna get a proper one made up from carbon fibre - might even be able to keep the design/moulds and then others can buy em :top::top::top:
