Which engine for zetec convversion?

Hi,

I'm looking at doing a zetec conversion for my s1...

Could somebody please point me in the right direction as to which engine zetec engine i need as the donor?

I thought it was the silver top, like this one?

Accriliate pistons are my first choice, but... are the standard pistons anygood? obviously machined to lower CR.

I've read a couple of threads on here saying the rods are good for 270 -300bhp (ish) different people different opinions... but can't seem to find anything regarding pistons

:? :?

Cheeres :DD:

yes mate accrilite pistons are good i used em in mine standard rods suposed to be good for 300 bhp+ just get the full bottom end lightened and balanced and you will notice a big difference in torque and power :top:

Lightened and balanced was in my plans.

If you don't mind me asking... what your spec and what boost you running to achieve 320bhp

320 bhp was from my old cossie i had doo,s old rst i rebuilt it with accrilite pistons +.5 oversize fully lightened and balanced made 223bhp before rebuild was running 16psi when i had it but sold it before i got it set up you got front mount cooler as well would also suggest cossie managmet,my mate has a s1 with a 2.1 zvh running accrilite pistons standard bottom end stage 3 head and cam cossie managment with green injectors and front mount cooler 250bhp :top:

Not sure on standard rods being good for 300+ :? , might be wrong though! Thought standard rods with arp bolts are good for 260-280bhp anymore and you idealy need steel items? Ive had H section rods put in mine for peace of mind and I was told I needed them to go for 300+! If you need any help give area six a call hes more than willing to give advice and im sure thers not many people that know more than him in this field?!

I was thinking of Farndon rods tbh as you only get one go when it comes to rods :(

Thanks for advice :top:

Farndon rods and Calibra Turbo (C20LET) pistons are a proven solution.. alternatively Ian Howell (as above) can sort you out a set of rods+pistons of whichever brand he has at the time for good money..

You'll need to run about 1.4 bar boost to get over 300bhp on a zetec.. with a t34.. then you have that pesky rs turbo exhaust manifold to battle with..

My intentions were to have a custom manifold made by someone like primary designs or similar till i saw how much they where

Whats the problem with the rst manifold :?

Back pressure starts to rocket at the 300hp mark! Seen cars hittting over 300 hp with standard manifolds though so it can be done, tubular is the better way obviously but £££s!

It doesn't flow very well, it puts the turbo right above the crank sensor and pushes the turbo towards the rad.. enough reasons? :)

I think Ian Howell charges less than £500 for his tubular ones that sit the turbo above the gearbox.. they seem alright!

Was £600 when I ordered mine couple of weeks ago :content:
