P.s. to anyone answering this, if it turns out my master cylinder has gone, is there any other choice in replacinng it i.e. performance master cylinder made by one of the big brands in the brake business??

First you remove the modulators then you make new copper brake pipes from the master cylinder to each t-connection on the inner wings. Use a non-abs resevoir. If you just want to disable the ABS, remove the modulator belts.

A lot better feel
zvhturbo on here has done the conversion and he can also tell you what its like. I've been told that fitting a bigger master cylinder is not alway best.

Right, MK4's came in both ABD and NON, it was a optional extra.
The master cylinder you are best buying is the S2 NON ABS item. S2's have the biggest ones. With a NON ABS one u can simply get the brake lines off any NON ABS MK4 if you want to.
The compensators reduce the braking load to the back wheels for safety, ABS cars have "load aportioning" compensators, they are linked to suspension and vary depending on what the car is doing. NON ABD cars have fixed rate compensators under the bonnet

well safechav i now have in my possession a master cylinder that is apparently off a non abs turbo
the only difference to the one thats on there is an extra nipple at the end furthest from the servo, have pics but photoshop is down for maintenance.
sorry about this link coming back up but i need to know, as the pic above off LEE RS shows no link to a modulator when running the new pipes (in red).

Easy calm down
The way Lee has shown it runs the rear compensators, but they are wank, and a common MOT failure aswell.
Have you got a picture of your new master cylinder? It should have an extra 2 outlets on it Also what number has it got stamped on the side. Should be 25, if its 23 or 22 you've been skanked

The yellow circles and arrows indicate the 4 outlets.
The red circle is where the size stamping is on the opposite side. Although it doesn't look like an original master cylinder, looks like a Lucas one.
Can you see the size?

if i have the single 'input' reservoir, i can just keep the plug over the second hole that the other reserviour would have been in and job done?

Not inputs????
Outputs
Your master cylinder has 2 outputs, they run to opposite sides of the inner wings, anr are both split to make 4 pipes, one for each wheel.
So, you can either do as Lee's very pretty makes it easy type of thing diagram says, and bypass the ABS modulators (simpler option)
OR
Get a NON ABS master cylinder with 4 outputs, and either re-pipe the car with copper or original NO ABS pipes and at the same time remove the rear adjusting compensators for fixed rate ones (the BETTER option)
