I think the Series 1 is slightly thicker in core depth, and I should imagine the 3i one would be less efficient

I have always been under the impression that it's more or less the same rad, but just has modified mountings to mount it a few centimeters more to the right... At least my cars have always had standard 1.6 cvh rads without any problems.

I went down this road last year when trying to sort out a rad for mine, and the company i deal with showed me in their suppliers catalogue and im sure the RS rad is exactly the same dimensions but the brackets are moved along about 2 inches to push it over to one side. im 99.9% sure but you usually prove me wrong so ill say sorry now if i am

I ended up using a S2 rad in the end anyway though

Like i said you may well be right, but the Rad company i deal with was showing me his suppliers catalogue and the dimensions of it were exactly the same, just the brackets were in completely different places. And ive seen S1 rads on eBay and they were the same as the diagram.

I could pop down there and double check cos i could be wrong
