I dont own one but from an outside view -
Reason i would love an Escos - The look, the kudos, the history of them etc etc
Reason NOT - a lot of money and target for theives and jealous vandals

I like mine because......hang on, im not sure, its just because its an Escort Cosworth i suppose, you dont see many of them about and its a rare car
What i dont like is the reliability and also the amount of lookalikes people do, 'oh is that a real Cosworth or not mate' really gets my goat

You cant class all youths in that catergory though Dave! Im only 20 now and have more than appreicated the escos for at least a good 5 years.
At the end of the day a lot of younger people today only appreciate jap machiner (i.e. scooby, evo, etc.) but personally i see Fords as cars with character. Also, theres not much better than wasting more expensive and 'advanced' japanese cars in a 10year old+ ford!

They look the mutt's, Real intimidating in a rear view mirror, Has the "pull over or i'll fuckin eat ya look", Easily and inexpensively tuned (compared to rice burners ) Has character. Holds their value well.
Dislikes,
Need constant maintenance, A tad unreliable (would love to travel Europe in mine but wouldn't have the balls). Some parts becoming unavailable now. You could be left with more money in your pocket if you had a heroin addiction.
But saying that, Never regretted buying it. Always puts a smile on my face.

But what do you mean by hadling better? I can't see how understeering FWD car can handle better :-/ I have to try one somehow :-/
Still it's not the same class of a car, so I can't imagine that.

Of course newer cars are easier to drive. They are of course nicer todrive too with controls working softer and in more civilised way, but I wouldn't say e.g. Focus handles better then Cossie. IU've driven all kinds of modern Scoobies and they are easier to drive, feel nicer to drive, but apart from top STI models they just won't turn compared to my Escos. And the way car turns is what I call handling. Straight line stability is just enough in Escos - I'm a little bit afraid over 220-240km/h that;s advantage of modern cars.
Of course cars in the same calss are today better then Escos (Top STI or Evos) but I can't see how Fiesta can handle better. Well I try to get one for test although this may be hard.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
there is something about the look of an escos in your rear view mirror. it also looks good from behind and the whale fin is just awesome. i have wanted one for about 10 years and now i have finally got one. they are rare as hens teeth here in australia i only know of 5 in WA. where i now live. also they are not as well known here as in the uk so i dont get the vandal and theft problems touch wood. over here the locals think it is a hyundai exel with a spoiler kit . boy dont they get a suprise. the people who know mostly about them are expat pomms many times i get the thumbs up of people who know what it is , just the other day i was pulling into the local shops to acar park position i was sitting in the car when a young bloke in a merc, cabrio pulled up and said wow what a cool car , that coming from a guy in an SLK he was a pomm . the other end is that most of the young blokes here drive huge V8 cars and (ute,s) pick ups but from a standing start at the lights they have no chance. i have only had it for three months so at the moment i have no bad points , mabee exept parts availabillity but that is to be expected with the distance and age of the car. i cant ever see myself selling it , it is a car that appeals to a very small group of people here in OZ.

Pro's - Looks, rarity, motorsport heritage, looks
Con's - Paranoid about parking out of sight, young kids asking if its an Evo or Scooby Having to wash/polish it every time it gets taken out.
But i dont care about any of that, i've got my dream car and i'm keeping it for a very long time, i couldn't possibly imagine what i'd replace it with....

i have liked them since i saw them first in 1990.
didn't know what i would like best, but the thing that sticks in my mind
was when i first drove it after having handed over my wedge, and
the rear quarter panels sticking out when i looked in the side mirrors, the
big wing spoiler blocking my rear view,i could tell i was driving something special.
and i love looking at the heart of it all,my Ford blue rocker cover,
makes me feel proud
the worst thing would be the mrs slamming the f##kin door hard

I like the balance of the car, and the feedback through the steering wheel. No over engineered power steering. It’s really a driver’s car. When coming off round-abouts the pull of the 4 wheel drive is sensational, and other sharp corners. Yes, it may be a bit uncomfortable, but at the end of the day, it’s a real sports car, that you have to drive. I love my Escort Cossie, that’s why I drive it every day. 110 miles a day, and just filled up this evening 105.9p a litre. Thank fuck for the company petrol card.

Not another car in the average working mans class turns heads like the Escort cossie, road presence is immense.
the history
the fact that i grew up looking at them and saying -one day!
Dislikes
All the idiots who want to race you all the time
Parts availability
Tend to be expensive when they break

The looks
Handing in the sense of chucking it around
Mostly the smile it puts on my first whenever I see or drive it.
Dislike:-
cost for uprating the weak transmission after upping the power
The fact I still haven't found a front upper bumper spoiler for decent money
The seats don't have enough adjustment for my liking and seem to sit high at the front

re cossie
i always wanted a monte carlo , never thought id be in a position to buy one, now i have its a good buzz
pros . fantastic looks, rarity, feels special (even tho its an 12 year old escort) .
bad points , needs constant attention, money thrown at it regularly to bring it up/ keep it in order, the lack off availability of upper stone deflector splitter, concern about leaving it anywhere ,even at a garage for repair etc. 19s leggaras being so exspensive, the list goes on.
regards stookay
