Dashboard Volt Guage,.
When the car is idling and I put my foot on the brake the volt guage reading drops quite a lot.
Surely it shouldn't do that just from the brake lights coming on?

This gauge is plugged on the breaking system (if you remove the ABS fuse it will shut the voltmeter off!)
So you may have a trouble with the ABS unit, the assistance’s pump or something in this matter! (or maybe just a corroded plug somewhere)
First of all you should try to connect a multimeter to your battery an hit the breaks to see if you have a real voltage drop. Then try to unplug element by element until you find the origin of the problem.

, the escos volt meter has its own fuse, a 3A one fuse number 2, on normal escorts this fuse is a 30A one for the ABS system, this may be where you have got confused. the ABS fuses on the escos are in the left hand side of the boot behind the carpet, there is about 4 fuses in total, one for the accumulator pump, one for the ecu, and 2 for the actuation block (one for each side i assume...)
but like july1 says it is more than likey a bad earth connection, for some reason my oil pressure gauge does drop a bit when i press both front windows up...?

I've the same thing as you on the oil gauge this is du to the poor section of the wires when you windows are loaded the voltage drop on the system and so the reading on gauges is modified.
But the break lights are not powerfull enough to make this happen.
