When you say it flashes - does it just flash on and off or does it stay on, or show a flash code?

On the newer Fords they show a flash code where there is a Wiki page listing all the results. (whether these codes are still relevant to an older car I don't know)

https://www.fordwiki.co.uk/index.php/Airbag_Flash_Codes

Most common on the older cars is a 4 flash code- is a seat belt pre-tensioner wiring fault.(If fitted) Either just clean the connectors under the seat or hard wire them.

(I have no idea what your car has as ref airbags, drivers, passengers etc.)

Escort cosworth seat pretensioners is a mechanical system and totally independant of the airbag system
the fault above may well be a failed wire in the clock spring

Does a Cosworth still flash a fault code?
