Hi guys, finally got round to buying my dream car she is a long long way off being driven but its an opportunity to build it just how i want it, cant wait for the journey...

Dash in with banana pod in place, still need to cut the hole for the gauges as the dash started out life as an xr3i item. Spoiler trial fitted properly in place.In addition i have given the inside a good clean out, I pick up a full interior tomorrow (hex) so looking forward to seeing it resemble a car!
also have a original carpet winding its way up the country, a nice little find off ebay.
next plan alongside scouring for more parts is to take the paint back in the cabin and get it painted so i can start bolting a few items in permanent. Yey!

yes thats the one! Its fine I know there are plenty of people out there needing spares... I just hope I will he able to source everything I need, full car is quite a tall order!
Interior picked up and placed in the car this morning. Love it! I actually have something that is starting to resemble a car now... the condition is excellent too coming from a car with little miles before being swapped for a leather set.
also came with an un cut parcel shelf, great progress.

It is great fun watching it slowly come together, i should get to know the car very well too in the process.. I am already itching to drive it though i must admit and i reckon I'm 18 month away from completion. I have set a target of june next year so we will see how that pans out...
got my lights through the post yesterday! I am hoping to drop on a set of nomad items at some point but stuck a bid on these and got them for 99p so will do for now

You not going to dip the shell bud? I would. As it's going to protect it for a long time and it's the rust you can't see inside places that could ruin your day! They rot from the inside out.
Get it dipped and then painted, you'll have a stunning car once it's done!

Don't do it!! been there and would only recommend if doing a concourse car.
After spending a lot of money approx. Ł10,000 you will indeed have a stunning shell but then everything fitted to it has to be new or refurbished, this will slow the build right down and send the cost right up

I looked into it and priced it up and yes it was a fair few quid, the thing is the shell is 99.9% rust free. Its an absolute timewarp. Therefore i ended up thinking why bother. I am going to stonechip it to death before paint on the underside and rub back the few rust bubbles it has on the underside of the strut tops. After that she is a peach
On a slightly more exciting note I have beem talking to Quaife and have decided to go with their QBE87G gearbox. It sounds like a straighforward enough fit which is a bonus. Its a 6 speed sequential jobbie. I just need some advice really on who to turn to for a good engine build. Looking at 500-600 bhp. Its going to be next years job as i have enough on getting the shell together at present, so much stuff to powder coat and get organised. Shell is pencilled in for lashings of imperial blue in june so need the f&r bumpers before then.... scary haha!!!

Hi, You ought to talk to Mark Walker at MK motorsport as he has a Quaife for sale and it has never been used. I think you are fairly close to him.
Mark Shead is the best engine builder IMO (but not the only one obviously..)

Its not a bad gearbox. I have one in my race car. Its not the friendliest box to use quite agricultural and not really road friendly at all but it does take the power well. Myself personally I would go for one of romains 6 speed sequential gearboxes. They are an exact fit same dimensions of the standard mt75 just need the prop shortening. They are also much easier to use and road friendly along with theyre much cheaper. I have them in two cars currently ive bought four now in total and cant fault them.
Got the Escort moved today after making some space, hopefully I am going to crack on and get some paint under the arches and underside of the car in the next few weeks so she can go onto her wheels
very well sir thanks. Body panels all sourced, interior is just about There, got a loom sorted. Pick up/get posted the last items to be able to get her on wheels and steer it next week... Very excited!

Thats a really interesting post. Sorry if this is a derail, I have the close ratio oppliger Long box and love it but have toyed with the idea of a sequential.
