Default Prices for Escort Cosworth vs Monte

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and am interested in purchasing an Escort RS Cosworth or Monte and wondered what the experts think the current asking prices for a standard cosworth vs a Monte would be? i.e. a car that has less than 100k miles and has been fairly well looked after.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

a monte does not fetch a premium price over a escort cosworth lux, the monte aiso does not have the optional extra of the leather seats, they are cloth only.

I have been checking the prices recently and there does seem to be a slight difference maybe of approx. 5-10k difference between similar quality cosworth Lux's and Monte's. Funnily they are still for sale, which probably means they are overpriced. I'll keep looking, as I'm interested in either, but obviously don't want to pay over the odds if I can avoid it.

Also there don't seem to be too many for sale in the high twenties, more like £30k for an average UK car with 100k miles or an imported car with 80-90k miles.

Thanks!

Never really been any difference or premium.
At a push guess a jewel violet one may fetch abit more as it's an exclusive colour etc

yep like dan says no real difference at all,the over priced montes are usually up for sale by dealers who think they can add a chunk more as its a monte lol, condition is the all important thing be it big t small t or monte, condition is the key

I think you guys are spot on (escpecially about the overpriced dealer cars) and as you say the most important thing should be the condition of the car.

You also mention Big Turbo and Small Turbo and I've read so much saying that the Big T is the more desirable and reliable as it was a homologation special of approx 2500 cars, but on the other hand, the Small T is supposedly easier to drive, i.e. with the turbo kicking earlier & smoother, and with the additional electronics and coil packs could be more problematic than a Big T?

I'd be interested in your views on that as well please.

the big t is the real deal, the small t was made to be more smooth to drive especially in power delivery but it took the soul out of the car as there is nothing more exciting than putting your foot down and waiting for the boost to kick in, but its not for big girls blouses.

With everyone swapping the turbos out for bigger ones does it make much other difference? Is it just a turbo, map and porting or more than that?

ST reliability is good.

Here a lot about BT engine harness issues.

Both had similar hp out of the box.

For me I don't like messing with things these days so glad I ended up with a big turbo car as easier/ cheaper to get more power.
i think Mark said my one was about 360hp which being honest is still not that fast when pulling the 4x4 stuff around, but is just a chip/ intercooler and new fuel pump and looms.

Think small turbo max is 300 after that the turbo needs to be changed etc.

Thanks all for your views and if anyone is aware of a car for sale or considering selling, then please ping me.

Basically looking for a standard or mildly modified BT or ST with less than 80,000 miles and history, and am willing to go up to £40k for the right car, but ideally closer to the £30k.
