Default Genuine WRC Escort project

What would be the main component costs of building a true WRC Escort or one that would cut the mustard to either be used or have the best value for a WRC Escos?

I am assuming the following:

£5k Brakes
£12k Engine
£4k paint inside and out to high quality
Panels ? No idea
Drive train, do they all need to be active diffs? Assuming £8k box and another £8k for diffs and drive shafts etc...
Seats £1200
Cage and basic shell is already done.
electrics, ECU, etc...another £5k?

Above are just assumed amounts.
Would the value be in it being MSA log booked etc..

Sort of, something was offered to me, gen Wrc shell with history but would need a complete build.

Have been toying with 6R4 rep. Nearly bought an RS200 kit and also looked at hf3000 straits and then Ultimate.

About to start the v8 944 build so probably will stick to that tbh

The project offered is very good and the parts supply is discounted...just big numbers to make it worth the true value and I don't need / want to own a 120k wrc car at the end...I would Need to be anal with the spec and build to achieve the value

If you are wanting to build a period WRC then triple your figures in most cases.

£5k Brakes Tarmac Brembos, 8 pot, and 4 pot rears all new or as new with discs and floating bells will be closer to 8k
£12k Engine Again, full spec WRC will be closer to 15k with original pulleys, twin injectors and controllers
£4k paint inside and out to high quality
Panels ? No idea
Drive train, do they all need to be active diffs? Assuming £8k box and another £8k for diffs and drive shafts etc... *.5" front, 9" rear mags, with props, active control units and wiring, including driveshafts using an FFD (not xtrac) £25k, £35k for xtrac if you can find one
Seats £1200 plus belts another £600
Cage and basic shell is already done.
electrics, ECU, etc...another £5k? £12k

Some of the big bits you are missing, mag hubs, genuine parts are all top money, the Dynamics or Reigers will be 12K new or 3.5k used.

there is a reason these cars are making upwards of 70/80k now.
Good luck finding all the bits. I know of at least 2 proper ones, and another 4/5 bits of ones in use.

There is no money in copy parts if you are looking at building one for the value.

If you want to rally buy an Evo.

I don't want to rally, it would just be something to enjoy the build, use and sell on eventually, thanks Mark k, useful info and much as I thought.

The 944 v8 will be Ls, hopefully from a 2nd hand donor but might be a crate engine. Limited slip turbo transaxle and the have some fun on road and track...probably cage it too. I bought the 944 for peanuts but they are rising well...wife not too pleased as we have 6 cars now.

yeah currently a 944 is out of reach price wise for me till we've moved house then I might look into it again. Shame as my last two cost peanuts.

I lucked in on this one, turbo shell, 34,000 miles and mint paint but poor engine. Taxi driver asked me if I would look at the elec seats as they didn't work, he knew I was building the cossie. I had a look and got them working then his wife left him, he advertised for £4k and had total time wasters...he said that all he wanted was an easy sale one night when picking me up as he wanted to go on a big holiday to Thailand, I jokingly said I would give him a grand for it and he pretty much took me to the cash point.

Think of a price and double should get you close.

Steering Rack Easy Feel - 2K
Suspension - 3 - 5K depending on what you want...Dynamics is cheapers, Reiger & Proflex is more expensive...Budget 5K
Uprights, links, Front & Rear Cradle - 3 - 4K
Drive Shafts - Fronts are Circa 2K for the genuine items Rear 1 - 2 K
Laminova Coolers - 1 - 1.5K
Dash Display - 1 - 2K

Fuel System 1.5 - 2K
Intercooler - Genuine Item is 1.5 - 2K

That's just off the top of my head....the small parts needed to build a genuine car really do add up...

Thanks, I have quickly realised that going for a genuine rebuild would not be viable.

It might make a nice semi replica?

Have to agree with most of the above your never gonna make money on building one, not to historic spec using genuine parts they're worth more in individual parts unfortunately, I'm building one as you've seen and having a serious look at more modern options for power and drivetrain as the price on parts is just ludicrous

No, backed away as was too big a project and just bought a new Range Rover so the car budget is spanked for now.
