Misfire on Escort Cosworth - Help!!

Hi all,

My neighbour has a 1996 Escort Cosworth which has just developed a nasty misfire when it coems on boost.

The misfire is just about detectable under normal driving conditions and can be felt as a slight hesitation, but as soon as it comes on boost the hesitation gets even worse and the whole car starts to vibrate. Boost seems to build very slowly but the increase in boost pressure doesn't bring with it an increase in power.

He was most pissed off earlier when he couldn't keep up with a Citroen DS3:cry:

The car's completely standard, and only has 15k on the clock. It has been standing in the garage since about xmas without being started, before then it was running ok.

Any ideas?

Oh,forgot to say we've changed the plugs (standard Ford) and that hasn't helped

Any suggestions as to the likely cause are welcome

Sorted!!

Fitted a second new set of plugs, and it goes like a train now!

First set will be going back to Ford!

Not sure if it helps, but do the escos' need their plugs gaping like on the sierra's?

gaps checked before fitting (didn't need any adjustment from the box), we reckon 1 of the 4 was duff. He had a whole box of new ones, so just picked another 4 and fitted them.

Sounds like the gap was to big to me.
