Thumbs up PauloV8's escos (help - page2)

That's right folks.
After 16 years of drooling and dreaming of owning one of these one day, that day has finally come.
Since of yesterday I'm now the proud owner of an escort cosworth.
What can I say? I'm in heaven.
The car's a 1993 big turbo and was owned for the last five years by a friend of a friend so it was with some peace of mind that I bought it.
The car's not perfect, but is in fairly good state, the only thing less good being the paint job due mainly to the front being a bit stone chipped. It also doesn't have the front lower splitter. Apart from that, everything's ok.
The car has 172.000km (+/- 107.500miles) but the engine suffered a full rebuild some 22.000kms ago (+/- 14.000miles ago).
It has ultimate springs and bilstein shocks, sparco strut brace, samco boost and water hoses, bailey dump valve, mongoose exhaust, sparco pedals, sparco deep dished steering wheel and B&M short-shifter and aluminium gear knob. All the rest is standard.
I've been on here for 3 years now and I'm counting on you guys to help me take good care of my baby because from what I gathered, I think it's gonna be a love/hate thing.
Instead of opening a thread every time I have a doubt I will be doing it here on this thread. Thanks in advance for everything.

Here's some pics of it for you guys...

well well well Paulo you did it in the end, you have to admire someone who says they are going to get somthing and a few years later do just that

what was your first drive like in it on your own ?

Thank you all guys.
I really can't stop smiling everytime I simply think there's an Escos in the garage.
It really is a dream come true.

Cozzfather, it may have taken a wile, but no other car does it for me as this one does, so i'd never go and buy something else. It had to be an escort cosworth.
As for the first drive in it, I can't even describe the feeling of happiness and acomplishment of driving MY escort cosworth.

Andy the plans are to try and keep improving what's less good in the car, such as the paintjob and a few minor details. Don't know if I will be able to afford a big brake kit, and wouldn't like to have to change the standard wheels, nevertheless I'd like to improve the braking power.
Then, since the suspension is already taken care of I'd like to go for a bit more power. Nothing too fancy. 280/300bhp will do it for me. The car already has a bmc standard box air filter and a mongoose exhaust, and I was thinking of adding a 3bar map sensor, -31 actuator, green injectors, rs500 intercooler, a chip to go with all this and I think I'll get to my target power.
Of course all the plans for the car will be extended in time because Portugal is not exactly the best place to live in western europe money wise (actually it's the worst), but hey as Chip said we have good weather.

Tank you all once again for your replies.

Today as I went to a friend's house I began to feel the car sort of "floating" on a steady throttle in 5th, as if the forward motion wasn't continuous.
Now on the way back home on a bend to the right cornering hard the car misfired as if it didn't have fuel, and the rest of the way it misfired everytime I tried to pass 4000rpm.
Low down everything's fine then it comes on boost normaly but when it reaches 4k it just stuters (spell?).
When I parked it in the garage I gave it some gas in neutral and it does the same.

Any ideas of what it may be?

I was thinking of something to do with the fuel pump or something, but that might just be possible too.

Gotta get it checked...

Very nice car

Sounds like you have problem with one of the sensors m8 as the P8 ecu have a emergency mode(4k rpm limit) when it dont get input from all the sensors, this is so the engine should not take damage.
Correct me if im wrong anyone.

The car's back at home.
It was what we here call the cold start sensor. Dunno what you guys call it there.
Thanks for your tips...

Ok. New problem.

When I take the car to enjoy a few twisties it begins to smell gasoline inside the car...
When I ride on straight main roads everythings fine but as soon as I do a couple of bends there comes the smell.
Any ideas of what it may be or if it is a common problem guys?

This may be a easy fix, there are two vent flaps behind the rear bumper, i found i have had to block the driver side up to stop the ingress of fumes from the zorst.

I had to do the same on my saph cos too.

I'll try and do that, but I'm not sure if it's the case because it's not exactly exhaust gases I smell inside the car, it's more unburnt gasoline.

Thanks anyway m8...
