Default Help escos rad fans

Help please

My fans on my escos are not kicking in. The temp on the dial go above half way and they dont come on. So I poped over to woodford and picked up a new fan switch and a thermostat 32 degree one When I took the plug off the temp switch on the bottom of the rad I bridged the wires over and the fan came on so great they work. fitted the new fan switch and thermostat and the fans still dont kick in....

Can anyone please help

Thanks

Had a similar problem on mine, My fans would come on when I turned the air con on but wouldn't come on when the engine got too hot. Mine turned out to be the wires in the plug on the thermo switch in the rad. It looked ok from the outside but was badly corroded so didn't work. Re made the wiring in the plug & not had a problem since.

Right today I checked all the wires and great they are ok. So I unplugged the temp switch on the bottom of the rad and plugged it into my old temp switch and held a lighter on it and after 20 seconds the fan came on so at least all the wires are good. I plugged it back into the fitted switch and run the car again it got half way on the dial (inside the car) and still the fans arnt working I felt the radiator the top half is red hot and the bottom is cold so did a flush it make sure theres no air lock and run again still just warn at the bottom of the rad. Do you guys think I need a new radiator

If I let mine get that hot it will start to steam and the bottom of the rad still is only warm. Ive tried to unblock the rad but looking through my s/h I found it had rad seal in 2000 done by ford to stop a leak. Think this has blocked the rad over the time. What do you think only other thing the water pump is not working but I dont think they can stop working it turns with the cambelt I think Not that great on engines

If the water pump was broken the car would overheat on the move not just parked up as you'd have no movement of water around the system.I'm sure the Escort had the better water pump, metal impellors not plastic like some Fords.

Sounds like the rad is causing the problem if the wiring is ok to the Fan switch & they had tried to fix a leak previously. Does the bottom water hose get hot after a run ? It should do, but just not as hot as the top.

My fan's come on when the needle is just over half way on the gauge if that helps.
