Small Turbo Boost - Checked ECU Has Chip???
Had my Small Turbo Escos on rollers today just to see where its at, its a nice car to drive but doesnt have that punch in it like my cousins stage 3 saph
anyway it managed a mighty 203bhp at the fly, torque was similar too
can anyone tell me show me a pic of a standard escos boost gauge just want to see where it goes upto
also this small turbo management big turbo msd thing is taking a while now, so im thinkin about gettin it to 295 (msd) on this turbo, will there be a massive difference?
all feedback shall be appreciated................

As you are down on power anyway it is going to be woefully slower than a stage 3 sapphy, especially if the sapphy is 2wd.
Your car won't have a punch, but then it won't have any(real) lag either unlike a stage 3sapph.
A smaller turbo as yours works much sooner but runs out of puff much sooner as well, and is very limited in power potential.
For a serious power hike the turbo needs to be bigger, management(ecu) would need a serious look at too.

My ST Escort Cos goes into the dashed section on the standard boost gauge. If you keep your foot down for a few seconds it eventually drops back to just above the solid box area on the gauge. Just over 1 bar. Mine gave a reading of 250 BHP on PE's rolling road @ the fly.

well the rolling road guy said i filter is totally ******
so i was just thinkin changing the filter and pump and take it to stu, have it chipped then see what it drives like and possibly put it back on the rollers again
any ideas why it only came out with 203bhp???
also my gauge goes upto i think 2 dashes before 1.5 is that right/standard
thanks

Sounds like you aren't getting overboost. On a standard engine the boost will go up to the solid block whilst driving normally. If you put the pedal to the floor you should get eight seconds of overboost when the needle goes into the dashed area just below the red. If you keep it floored the needle will drop back to the solid block after 8 secs.
Overboost is the first thing to go if your ECU logs a fault - then you'll only go to the top of the solid block and will be well down on power. This will also happen if someone disconnects the AMAL valve or bypasses it without adjusting the actuator to compensate once they have fitted a chip.

Sounds like the car has been chipped but hasn't been set up properly. You could always remove the chip temporarily and reconnect the AMAL valve to see if the buzzing stops and whether you get any overboost.
My AMAL valve clicks continuously when the superchip is plugged in - but it still works properly. Are the vacuum pipes still connected to it? If it still doesn't work then it points to a fault somewhere else.
If it does work you may find its faster already. You could then put the chip back in, disconnect the AMAL valve again and turn the actuator up a touch until you get the correct amount of boost. You should really get it set up properly though.

shall i try a new amal valve and put both pipes on?
thanks

Hi can you tell us where the ecu is on this car and where the chip is supposed to be so we can check if its chipped or not.
Also is the chip a piggy back type on this car like the fiesta turbos or do we need to locate the ECU and open it up like the early cossys and checl?
cheers

Some of those old superchips were poor at best. Best pointers to them are the amal valve going mad at idle and the ECU reporting an ECU failure to diagnostics. A good chip will retain the amal valve, use the overboost facility correctly (around 20psi) and NOT report to diagnostics that the ecu has failed.

right have checked the ecu and it is chipped (superchip)
amal valve is still disconnected (plug is off), the amal valve has two pipes going to it, one which is not connected seems like is going to the actuator, and the one that is connected one end is connected to amal valve other end is not connected anywhere
also the boost gauge goes and stays on the dashed area just before the red
any ideas people why car is down on power, when i bought the car there was a rolling road graph saying its 275bhp

I think a superchipped T25 should run more boost than that. Mine goes to the far side of the red when on overboost, and just over the solid block when on normal boost.
You probably just need a set up.

MarkN: Yeh defo is something wrong as the amal valve pipes are not connected plus its make a buzzing noise when we connect the the plug onto dont think that is normal.
Stu if we was to get it setup up/rectify the problem on the current Superchip what kinda power can we expect and is it anygood with this chip or shall i just get my cousin to OPT for one of your chips and get it setup at the same time as we dont to be paying for a SET-UP twice and would rather sort this out properly om the first go?
cheers

Why don't you unplug the Superchip and connect the amal valve back up and see what happens? You may find it actually gets better (you may need to adjust the actuator). Mine had a powerchip in it when I bought it and it just didn't run right. When I took it out it got loads quicker. It might on yours too because on paper you're running less power than standard.
My amal valve clicks like crazy when it idles with the superchip plugged in. I also get the annoying ECU ROM failure code logged as Stu says. However it does seem to run quite well apart from that.
Stu - if you're reading this - how much power can one of your chips get out of the T25 with the standard turbo? GGR claim to be able to get 305, but from what I've heard these are nearer to 280 bhp. Hardly seems worth replacing a 260ish superchip with one of those :-( but I'd love some more power.
