the biggest give away is the fact that the small turbo is the only one with a air flow sensor.

bottom pulleys are different, but they can be changed.

inside the block, underneath, there will be holes in the block for the oil spray jets.

have to get the sump off though.

the block as oil squirt jets instead of a spray bar coming off oil pump

thats the only difference in block as far as im aware

the head, onl a small turbo rocker cover will fit it, big turbo doesnt

externally looking at it, the water pipe that goes to the oil modine is at the front of the head unlike a bt is at the back

crank pulley is different aswell

throttle body, idle valve, fuel regulator, cam belt cover are all different too.

can't remember if it was on here or the rsoc site, but someone once listed the exact (an i mean exact - it was a long thread) differences between a small and large turbo escort. i seem to remember there were loads of small detail changes.

some pics of my small turbo engine bay:

It is Exhaust Gas Recirculation, for 83US specification.

that makes sense then what is behind the part thats bolted to the head? is it open to the exhaust port in the head itself? so it can recycle some of the gasses
