Mobil1 Motorsport 15-50w

Anyone use this oil? any comments on it?

G1EN 11-06-2007 03:11 PM

I use this and have had no problems..

reckon its the next best to Millers and damn sight cheaper...

Only thing i will say, its a little teppety on first start up, but once warm, as good as any. I hold a constant 4-5 bar on oil pressure on cold start up if that means anything.

cos im worth it 11-06-2007 03:36 PM

I use it to mate, seems to be ok stuff, but i also have noticed a little bit tappety from cold, just thought it was a sticky tappet and was thinking about changing them. oil pressure is also spot on. :top:

Amsoil has just done a lot of research on oils with lots of different tests.
MOBIL was about the worst for losing it's viscosity so easily.

Paul,
With Silkolene 10w50 Pro S being on the market, why are you even considering anything else :p ?

Rod has chemically tested most of the oils after high speed runs (Castrol RS was rubbish  ) and the only one that showed NO degradation what-so-ever, was the Silkolene. In use, I also found the same thing as Tabetha has mentioned with the Amsoil tests on the Mobil 1, in that after a very short period of time, the oil pressure started to drop (especially at high temps).

I can even bring you some Silkolene on Wednesday for you :p.

Pro - s is great stuff.

Rippers 11-06-2007 04:39 PM

Why? because the guy who built be engine recommended it :?

rapidcossie 11-06-2007 04:58 PM

i have used it on my engine with no probs.

I use castrol to and have has no probs.

would maybe try silkolene if i could get some ...

Mike...how much for two big bottles?

KSA-Cossie 11-06-2007 05:10 PM

Oilman is doing 6 litres of pro s delivered for £50 euan.

rapidcossie 11-06-2007 05:12 PM

whats the best pro s or pro r?

are they all 10w 50?

redrsmk5 11-06-2007 07:59 PM

no problems with this in my car 15/50 mobil one motorsport every 2.5k :top:

TONY F 11-06-2007 08:07 PM

just swapped from mobil 1 to silkolene pro s, must say it seems less tappety on start up but no other difference that i,ve noticed

Aaroncast 11-06-2007 08:31 PM

ive always used mobil 1 motorsport in a cosworth engine---no problems/changed regularly thats the secret- even on a dry sump set up!!!!!--------everyone oil manufacturer wants to be the one you should use regarding oil!!! use mine -use mine-lol- how many users know what 15-50 means -or 0-40 etc etc means anyway, each year theres somethig new!!! pro thi pro that ----ha-ha- remember marathon bars!!!! then they gave us SNICKERS!! ARNT THESE NICE BETTER THAN MARATHONS !!!!!!!! RE INVENT!!! AND SOLD TO UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMERS!!-
how many oils on the market now ?????? if mountune build you an engine and say this or that -use it!!!! -thats me >>>>>gone ta-ta

tabetha 12-06-2007 06:12 AM

Amsoil also did endurance tests on it's oils, such as over 400,000 miles in a truck and it was still well within NEW wear limits.
OIL is changed way too frequently, even AMSOIL state a 25,000 mile change interval.
I have yet to read anything good about CASTROL RS 10/60 which I have used myself, for a week, never again, I read independant tests as no point reading a lot of them.

Thats handy Mike..........................

Seeing as he wants to do an oil change prior to today! :p

Mike Rainbird 12-06-2007 08:04 AM

Rod is not trying to sell you oil :p. He has just reported on the tests he has carried out after doing top speed runs, nothing more nothing less - you can't get any more independant than that!

As to those that are saying they "can't tell any difference" between the oils, you don't "listen" to an engine to tell if an oil is better . You give it death, then send the oil off for chemical analysis. The Silkolene was the only oil out of the top recognised brands that Rod sent off, that was still within it's designed tolerances. The Castrol actually had metal particals in it . This obviously meant that the oil was NOT doing what it should .

In view of this, I now won't run or recommend anything else.

shanemc 13-06-2007 11:47 PM

i'd use pro s if i could my hands on it here in ireland.have used mobil 1 15w50 for the last two oil changes and its ok,but the tappets do seem noisy on it.
