Default Oil pressure, how much??? 19-05-07 Problem solved

Hi everyone!

I was wondering how much the oil pressure has to be on a cold and hot engine???

This is mine cold (on idle) :

This is after driving about 15min (on idle).

I think it's rather low isn't ??? Sometimes it's even in the top of the red part from the gauge!

Is this normal??

Thnx

That's about the same as mine is (Cold and Hot), does move up when you rev it when it's hot though. I have just changed my oil for some Mobil 1 Motorsport stuff, i'll let you know if anything changes Mr.Ford

seems really low to me too - on hot idle, mine isn't too far off what you have for cold idle....

When mine is cold the gauge sits at about 3.5-4.0 bar. When it's warm it drops to just below where yours is when it's cold.

Definately seems a bit on the low side to me

Thnx for the reply's!

I use Comma 10w50 oil. Just got a full service maintenance in March. (new oil, filter etc)

I think it's quite low when hot, when I rev the engine it goes upwards (almost the same when the engine is cold)

Could it be a problem with the oilpump?

its much too less for 10w oil.

Perhaps your oil pump gears are worn, i ve slightly more pressure, with an high pressure cosworth oil pump you will be at the top end of the scale when cold and good midrange when warm oil during idle.

Mines 5 bar from cold, then after 15 minutes or so steady driving just below the 5.

Got the car back today, nothing really changed, Oil pressure around 3-3.5 when cold idleing then just above the red when Hot idleing (New Oil Filter and Mobil 1 10W 50 Motorsport Oil)

that is WAY to low m8
Should be at arround 5bar at cold and about 1,5bar at hot.
You should get your oilpump checked before it goes any worse.

My bearings just gave up because of an broken down oilpump so the gear let down

It should be like this(just a little lower) only when hot

      Thnx for all the reply's!

Sounds to me that I need a new oil pump

Where can I get them the cheapest way, and the best

I've seen that Burton got some high pressure pump for 39 incl. vat. Are these any good??

And, is it a lot of work for replacing the oil pump????

      Thanx again!

I think that we have the same problem ....maybe we can get any discount if we buy 2 pumps

Pressure relief valve failing to open due to dirt

Pressure too low over the entire speed range:
Oil intake strainer clogged, intake pipe loose, or broken, oil pump worn etc.

I have the exact same problem and been putting off getting a new pump as they are a pain in the arse to change.

Is it worthwhile putting in new big end bearings whilst the sump's off?

Just re-read the post and seen that you must have the small turbo model as you quote Ł39 for a high pressure pump - Ł210 for me so not sure if your pump is located in the same place.

Let me know how you get on.

      Pete.

The 39Ł pump is for the new escos engine.
If i were u i would change bothe the big end and main end bearings at the same time, pretty easy to do.
Can recomend woodford garage for the parts, perfect ddelivery and always cheap prices.

oil pressure way to low and good chance if its been driven any amount of time that the bearing will have been damaged.

This unless of course ya gauge is faulty have you been to a garage and got them to check it with a external gauge?

same thing happened to me before i rebuild engine in BMW when i took bigend off they where just about worn threw

it was me i'd have the sump off remove all bigends and meassure the crank as long as it's not picked up on the crank and they meassure true replace bigends and fit some ARP bolts.

also while ya in there check and measure the Mains also these tend to suffer less put double check them and be sure

I got my oilpump off Matt Lewis High Pressure 5 bar pump
when at warm idle it show no less than 1.8bar as soon as its rev'd up it climbs to 4.5bar+

      Pic of pump

FAO the guys that think fitting a new pump will cure their probs...

Pumps move the oil they DO NOT create pressure.

I think i'm going to try a new (other) gauge first, and / or a new gauge sensor.

If the problem isn't solved after that, I have to buy a new oilpump.

      Buying the pump isn't a problem....but the fitting...that's horrible

i have the same problem on mine.havent measured the oil pressure yet.we should all measure the pressure with a real gauge first.the gauge in the car is no good..it can be alot of different reasons that the gauge in the car shows what it does..and since they all show differently.

at least i will measure mine before i change my oil pump.though im thinkin of a check over my engine in the winther.but yeah.
      intresting thread anyways

I've replaced my gauge today for a NEW one....but no difference

Monday I'm going to Ford and order a new pressure sensor

      Hope that will help!

Btw. I also don't hear any strange sounds from the engine, and my oil light doesn't blink or something....let's hope it's the sensor

I've fitted a new VDO oil pressure sensor (0-5bar) and ...........

The problem is solved! pffff....I'm so happy that I don't have to replace the oilpump

I saw that the sensor which was fitted, was a VDO sensor, it looked very good (think maybe 2yrs old), but it was a sensor from 0-10 bar. That caused the problem
