In ESCOS in mixed use or in sport use sometimes occur situation that coolant temp rising to 90 degrees, funs on, thermostat on but cooling system needs about 3-5 minutes to reduce temp to normal, sometimes this is reason overheating the engine or tear coolant hose. If fan switch puts on fans earlier, overheating the engine is less probable, and growth of coolant temp is lesser.

In that case, do a search for a post that Franco, or Mike has put up about fan switches - I believe you can replace the fan switch to stop them coming on at different temps with a saphire cos one to make them both come in slightly earlier, and together!

If you use a fan switch that comes in before your thermostat is open it will be on all the time as the stat and fan battle one to get it warm one to get it cold!!
If you have a probelm with taking a long time to cool after fan on, switching on earlier is NOT going to cure it, does it overheat at all ?
If it does not the system has enough cooling capacity, my cos(sapph) took a long time to cool after fan on, up to 10 miles at 50mph in the summer, until I REMOVED the air divertor between rad and intercooler, now it is way quicker.
An alloy rad will help a huge anmount with cooling capacity, as this transfers heat way better than the ford crap fitted.

Engine is not overheating overall. But if I hard accelerate and then hard braking (fast road runing on mountain roads) cooolant temp is almost entire time in 3/4 to near red area on scale of temp gauge. On normal running is in 1/4 to 1/2. Thank`s tabetha for yours proffesional advices. Maybe it`s time to buy new larger rad. (On the other side my rad is brand new, thermostat, rad hose and water pump too.) Maybe coolant is bad, I use now Castrol NF wit 50:50 mixture, 1 week ago change, boiling point about 160 Celsius degree.

Fit a saff cosworth switch mate, it drops the opening temp to 88ish degree's but more importantly fires up both fans (unlike the staged setup on a Escort!).
The mod will cost you less than 20Euros!

Thanks Franco ! I check that std thermostat opening temp it`s about 82 cel degree. Sierra fan switch have 88 cel degree switch on fan point and he is switching off fan on 77 cel degree, he have only 1 switch on point. Std ESCOS fan switch have 2 switch on fan points. 1 gear switch on fan about 95 cel degree and switch off on 90 degree. 2 gear switch on fan about 105 cel degree and switch off on 100 cel degree. IMHO Sapp. fan switch is good reference.

Just fit a fan overide switch so you can turn them on when ever you want, that way if you racing you can turn it on early and if you not it work as per normal
Its only an earth switch to the fan relay behind the battery (its the big green relay).
Grp-A Thermostat housing's don't use thermostat's and have the bypass welded up inside so all the water is run via the rad all the time

with normal ford rad I had to switch on the fans before each hillclimb. (manual switch and relay installed).
The thermostat opened at 88 deg C but the temp still climbed, I switched on the fans at 95.
I bought a new Proalloy rad and even racing the temps stay at around 80 - 85. I only put the fans on when sitting waiting in the pre start area. When the fans start at 95, (Istart them), the temp is back down to 88 within 2 mins. I always switch off the fans when racing.
Again with the proalloy rad after 4Km racing the temps are still as they were at the start line.
(Oil temp is usually between 80 - 85). I removed the water coolant lines from the oil filter and mounted the filter direct onto the engine to try.
cheers
kenny.
