Default Passenger Airbag on Escort Cos.

Hi all. I have a question that someone on here might be able to answer for me. I would like to disconnect my passenger airbag so that my son (who's 15 months old ) can sit in his rearward facing baby seat in the front passenger seat of my ECossy. I have tried him in the back but the seat belt won't fit around the baby seat (A bit like my sisters Focus) and he will only fit in the front . It is illegal to have said baby in the front passenger seat with the Airbag on.

If I do disconnect the airbag will a fault code be stored in the ECU? If I then re-connect the airbag at a later date, if there is a fault code stored in the ECU (Light on DIP?) will it go or will I have to take it to the dealers for them to 'Clean up the electrcial syatem'?

Hope this makes sense.

Theres no wiring to the pretensioners, they're mechanical.

If you disconnect the passenger air bag then the rest of the system will not function.

Ford have special tools for diagnosing SRS faults that act a dummy airbags.

I could only suggest disconnecting the passenger air bag and installing one of these tools on the wiring and tucking it up behind the dash.

disconnecting an air bag is not a good idea !!!

if you disconnect it, the rest of the system that is controlled by the ECU WILL NOT WORK !!!

the SRS system should ONLY be worked on by a trained tech..

its not funny when they go off by a small mistake !!!!

your best bet is to get a seat that fits in the back, or most dealers will sell a seat belt extension for " large people / child seats "

whats more, your car insurance will be void if they find your air bag system has been " altered in any way " ( say in a crash ) and the police will then prosecute you for driving with no insurance..

Cheers for the info guys. I have now sourced a fixing base for the rearward facing seat to drop into. It basically is permanently belted into the seat and my lads seat just drops and clicks in place. Hopefully in a couple of days time I will receive my Recaro baby seat that will match the Recaro interior of the ECossy, should look pucker )

Congrats to DENNIS, just read that your gonna be a dadda again )
