The problem with escort cossies is there s no set price for a certain car, look at the imperial blue 1 in the for sale section it looks a lovely car and is 13.5k which everyone will say is cheap BUT its not selling so in reality 12k and it will sell imo however its probably priced right as it is

There are guides around but as far as price goes, its impossible to accuratly price these cars without seeing them, inspecting them and going through the history and driving them. Ł10-Ł11k car could look and sound exactly the same as a Ł15k car in the adverts, until you go and see them.
I agree though, it would be a good idea to write a buying guide and get other owners opinions as at the end of the day, its us what know about problems and common problems etc, but as said an actual price guide would never work in my opinion.

when i say a price guide i was meaning a general idea, similar to
what you would find in a car magazine. not too specific but
any new buyer or person to this board might find handy.
could even be a sticky for people to find easy.
would save explaining time after time
i would reccommend Alps to do the price guide bit,cos he can handle
the that would ensue
i think if a few people got their heads together,it could be quite good

Lets put it this way mine will shortly be up for sale for 12k, it has original panels is a genuine straight 75k mile car, engine rebuild no smoke or rattles. Does have a few small bits of rust on the tail gate but not rotten. Its just a nice usable straight car with a few tasty bits like the msd closed loop fueling and wasted spark. Tbh if i got the bubbles sorted on the tailgate it would be the same condition as the cars that are up for 13.5k-14k imo

Whilst on the subject mines going up for sale soon, but S1 rst says the imperial one may not sell as its only on here and rsoc, but thats where i was going to advertise mine. Where else is there to advertise where you wont attract people who just want to come come and thrash the pants out of you car and say thanks but no thanks. I get the impression you will get that type of punter from say auto trader obviously cant brand every one like that.

pistonheads is a good website and autotrader is always good, just use your commen sense and meet them somewhere other than your house then only let them drive it when they have shown you the money

I wasnt saying it wont sell because its only on here and rsoc, i was just saying its only advertised to a small % of the market mate (as far as im aware). I think youll get the same type of people every now and then wherever you advertise to be honest.
Ive never failed to sell a car on autotrader within a couple of weeks.
Personally, if i was selling my car id do as most do and put it up on here and rsoc first, pistonheads, then if i had no luck id stick it on the autotrader.
Id NEVER let anyone test drive my car, until i have done the deal and have ALL the money in your hand. And then if for any reason they are not happy, then possibly re-negotiate accordingly if it is a true fault. If anyone had an issue with that, then fair enough, they'd have to look for another, although i think most genuine buyers would understand.

ok so a price guide could be somewhat tricky, but a comparison
and spec of the differant models for a prospective purchaser or
person interested in a escort cosworth may be a good idea.
its just i know my big turbo from my small turbo but sometimes
have to remind my self that not everyone knows about the escort
cosworth and a guide may educate them
ecos95...
thats a kind offer but i think if its from ff or pf it could be copyrighted
and they might not wish it being used, although i think you could ask
permission

i know what you mean about not letting anyone have a test drive but i think you have to judge each person individually, when i sold my last one i let several people drive it because if you dont you will have people thinking there is something wrong with it, if i was buying one for similar money 17-18k there is no way i would hand over the cash without being allowed to drive the car first

THE RADMAN
There has to be a little bit of commen sense used in that situation, i would allow a test drive before they handed over the cash BUT they would have to show me they were serious ie in the words of tom cruise "show me the money" before they got behind the wheel. That said yo can normally tell if there serious from a few things, there manor and how far they have travelled, think about it, if someone has traveled 200 miles to view it chances are there serious

Both fair points, you can normally tell what kind of person they are and if their seriously interested but in my opinion, when selling cars like these you have to so careful for so many reasons. Maybe sorting the deal out and getting the money first may sound a bit extreme but imagine if someone test drove your car and they bumped it or even worse wrote it off by pulling out on someone for example.

A lot of people have 3rd party insurence automatically when they drive any other car as a result of having their own insured fully comp. Ok, this doesn't pay you when your test driver writes your car off but at least it's legal. If I'm planning a test drive I'd take my cert with me & if I was selling I reckon I'd ask to see the prospective buyers.
I also think that the kind of person who insists on taking tha car out on a full blown test drive alone, should go to a dealer where they have insurence facilties for that.
If you are buying privately the price is less but you can't expect a full road test.
I bought mine without a proper road test, it's a risk you take if you want to save some money on a private purchase as oppose to a trade 1.
