If you can get away without removing the subframe it may be easier then I first thought

There is a procedure to remove and install it, if you get this right its pretty straighforward (i'll try to dig it out), i also remember the alternator had to come off as you can't pull one of the rack retaining bolts out far enough to get the rack out !!

I have just done mine and it has air con...lets just say I hope the new rack never ever has to come out again!!!

the bracket for the air con compressor onto the block was the worst to undo, access was a nightmare especially the rear bolt

mate reverse the bolts and put a nut on top altho my aircon is removed the bracket on the block is still on 1 bolt is seriously on there and really hard to get to ... so on my new crossmember i am reversing both bolts for future easy access

I found the job dead easy, done twice now. Get the car well up and supported. Very easy. No air con on mine mind. But done a lot worse jobs.

I don't know what the sub frame talk is all about

Done it twice myself on non-aircon model.

Alternator doesn't have to come off just jack the engine up a bit till bolt comes out.

I'm to fickle for originality so wouldn't do that to my "good car" my everday mondeo on the other hand would get the inverted bolt treatment no bother!!

There is normally a reason bolts are fitted the way they are.
(not just to annoy us)

fitted from the top down.......Should the nut ever come off then the bolt is not going to fall out and you will not lose your steering.

Fitted from the bottom up what do you think will happen to the bolts???? heaven forbid if the nuts ever came off, and then the rack would be held in by what

Well if you do what I have done and fit nyloc's aswell as drill the bolt and put a split pin through it...... Nothing probably.....

There is also a reason why these cars dont run over 300 brake from the factory but we arent bothered about a little thing such possibly melting the engine are we

Rally cars run an inverted bolt, my car is REGULARLY inspected, MORE than most cars on the road IMO... if the bolt is working loose I will know
