Unecessary on a road car, the oil temp at optimum is 120 c for best protection, it does as said releive some cooling duty from main system but a small insignificant amount that is not necessary, as system has plenty of capacity for cooling, it is designed to stop localised percultation boiling of the water in the turbo which generates air bubbles which are expelled when it gets to tank anyway.
