Default escort block

hi lads have decided to tackle the head gasket on my 93 escort cossie .started to dismantle and heres wat i found.firstly when i removed the inlet i noticed my block has 200 stamped onit .wat block should i have .secondly when i removed the rocker cover i noticed the bearing cap on the gearbox end of the inlet cam was loose only to discover one bolt was loose and the other had rung off in the head and the cap had been siliconed in place by the previous owner,wat a boge.what i need to know is can these b helicoiled and has anyone done this or would i b better off sourcing another head

200 block is the right blockand i would think these can be helicoiled no problem obviously depending on the state of head.

sorry wat i meant is did the escort cossie originally come with the 200 block and the 2wd engine was a 205 block .the head does look pretty descent and clean but i tink il send the head off for a rebuild and have new cams and bearing caps fitted to b safe ,wont know till i remove the head and examine it a bit further

I dont think its possible to have new bearing caps fitted, as far as i know they are line bored from new. I could be wrong though

yeah had sortha guessed that myself i knew the bottom end bering caps wer line bored but wasnt sure bout the camshaft bearin caps.

If the cam bearings and head bearings are worn/damaged you can have them built back up and re-bored back to spec. Expect to pay about Ł200 ex vat for a 16v head.

ive helicoiled my last head's cam cap studs with no problems

tanx for the help guys ,just have to get the head off now and cleaned down and inspect the cam bearing lobes to see if it did any damage with the bearing cap being loose
